THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF PARIS
The American University of Paris (AUP) was founded in 1962
to provide quality American undergraduate liberal arts
education to students from all national, linguistic, and
educational backgrounds. The language of instruction is
English.
Situated in one of the world's great cultural centers, AUP offers
its degree-seeking students, as well as visitors from other
colleges, an education based on an understanding of and
sensitivity to diverse cultures. The University's bachelor's
degrees conform to American higher education standards and
its courses carry academic credit according to the American
system. Therefore, students may transfer course credits from
other universities to AUP. Similarly, AUP course credits may
transfer to other American universities.
Both the academic excellence and the international dimension
of AUP's programs have been important advantages for our
graduates in gaining admission to top graduate programs, as
well as in pursuing career opportunities in the U.S.A., France,
Great Britain, and elsewhere around the world.
ACCREDITATION
The American University of Paris is accredited in the United
States by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle
States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market
Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-2680, USA - tel: 267 284- 5000).
The American University of Paris is a nonprofit educational
institution incorporated in the State of Delaware and licensed
by the State Board of Education as a Delaware institution of
higher education. The American University of Paris is registered
by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3)
not-for-profit organization.
The Institut de commerce international et des sciences de
l'information (ICISI), which includes the Departments of
International Business Administration, Economics, and
Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science, is recognized
by the French Ministry of Education as an Etablissement
d'enseignement technique privé.
The University confers the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor
of Science degree under authority granted by the Delaware
State Board of Education.
UNIVERSITY FACILITIES
The American University of Paris is an urban institution centrally
located in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, on the Left
Bank, near the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. Like many urban
American and European colleges and universities, the campus
of The American University of Paris is a composite of its
buildings and its surrounding neighborhood.
LIBRARY AND INFORMATION
RESOURCES
The University Library, located in the Monttessuy building,
provides access to more than 72,000 books, 9,000 print and
electronic journals and 1,600 films. The collections are
developed to support the curriculum. The library databases,
e-reference tools, as well as a document delivery service
facilitate access to materials not owned by the Library. All
electronic library resources are available from any computer
on campus.
The Library's Web site and a “University Library Guide” describe
the various services, policies and resources available. An
introduction to the use of information and research techniques
form part of the curriculum of the FirstBridge freshman year
program and other courses.
The University Library is a unique resource, reserved for the use
of AUP students, faculty and staff. While other library resources
in Paris are available to AUP students and faculty, the University
Library is the primary and only one that is open every day of the
week, when classes are in session.
COMPUTER SERVICES
The University IT department manages over 30 servers running
Linux and Windows and supports over 200 department PCs
and over 45 printers in six buildings.
Extensive computer resources and support are extended
to students yielding a student-to-computer ratio of 7:1.
Student resources include:
■ 5 computer labs containing in excess of 100 PCs
and 25 iMacs (G5)
■ Library research computer facilities (12 PCs)
■ Library Laptop lending program (25 laptops)
■ Academic Resource Center Laptop Lending Program
(25 laptops)
Students have free e-mail accounts, file storage space, and
Internet access, as well as use of a variety of software, printers,
projectors, and scanners. All AUP buildings are fully equipped
with wireless Internet access and students can use the wireless
network from their own laptops as well as AUP-owned laptop
computers*.
The University has a growing number of smart classrooms
equipped with computers, projectors, DVD/video players, and
Internet connections.
*AUP implements the latest in security and encryption
standards, and students wishing to connect to the AUP wireless
network will need wireless devices that are WPA compliant.
