Keukenh<strong>of</strong> showcased the widest array <strong>of</strong> roses,<br />

in all shapes, sizes and colours.<br />

Roses<br />

With an estim<strong>at</strong>ed 100% <strong>of</strong> Dutch<br />

rose breeders and a 50% <strong>of</strong> Dutch<br />

rose growers particip<strong>at</strong>ing, the<br />

Keukenh<strong>of</strong> Rose Show is strongly<br />

supported by the sector. The event<br />

has emerged as a powerful way to<br />

promote Dutch roses.<br />

Gerard de Wagt, secretary <strong>of</strong> the<br />

VKC (Permanent Judging Committee)<br />

revealed the winners <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>2011</strong> Rose Quality Competition on<br />

Thursday April 20th.<br />

In the c<strong>at</strong>egory Breeders, Schreurs<br />

was presented with the Keukenh<strong>of</strong><br />

Award with its ‘White Naomi’ rose<br />

with a score <strong>of</strong> 9.55 points. Kordes<br />

Roses Intern<strong>at</strong>ional came second<br />

with its new large-headed, yellow<br />

variety ‘Sunstar’. The orange and<br />

yellow hued ‘Cuba Libre’ from Olij<br />

Rozen ended third earning 9.35<br />

points.<br />

On the growers side, Meijer<br />

Roses again swept the boards in the<br />

c<strong>at</strong>egory Large-headed Roses with<br />

a stunning display <strong>of</strong> ‘Avalanche’<br />

(9.55 points). Like last year this<br />

rose grower from Pijnacker was<br />

presented with the Keukenh<strong>of</strong><br />

Award. In spray roses, breeding<br />

company Interplant from Leersum<br />

took home the Keukenh<strong>of</strong> Award<br />

for their ‘White Lady’.<br />

Rosa ‘Sweet Avalanche+’, from<br />

Meijer Roses was awarded the<br />

VGB Award. A jury <strong>of</strong> Dutch<br />

exporters elected the s<strong>of</strong>t pink<br />

tea hybrid as the rose with<br />

the best marketability. ‘Red<br />

Naomi’ from rose grower Van<br />

der Drift from Kwintsheul and<br />

Rosa ‘Avalanche+’ from Meijer<br />

Roses Pijnacker took second<br />

and third prize with respectively.<br />

Both ‘Avalanche+’ and ‘Sweet<br />

Avalanche+’ are bred by the Lex+<br />

the Rose Factory.<br />

Alstroemerias<br />

The Keukenh<strong>of</strong> Alstroemeria Show<br />

ran from April 28th to May 3rd<br />

with the winners <strong>of</strong> the VKC Quality<br />

Competition revealed on Thursday<br />

28th. The show was a sound<br />

successand fe<strong>at</strong>ured more than 70<br />

vases and 50 different Alstroemeria<br />

varieties.<br />

Overall, premium quality <strong>flowers</strong><br />

could be seen on display: colourful,<br />

big-budded, long-stemmed and<br />

exotic Alstroemerias.<br />

In the Best Stand Competition<br />

H.M. Tesselaar from Heerhugowaard<br />

took the first prize while<br />

breeder HilverdaKooij won the<br />

Alstroemeria Award with the pink<br />

and white-edged Alstroemeria<br />

‘Hawaiian Dream’.<br />

As for the growers, H.M Tesselaar<br />

from Heerhugowaard was<br />

presented with the Alstroemeria<br />

Grower Award for its Alstroemeria<br />

‘Siberia’ which scored 9.75 points.<br />

Quality Competition for Growers.:<br />

(3), ‘Hercules’ (4) , ‘Ton<strong>at</strong>iuh’ (5),<br />

‘Adelaide’ (6), ‘Toronto’ (7), ‘Paxi’<br />

(8) , ‘Santiago’ (9), ‘Monte Azzuro’<br />

(10) and ‘Casino’ (11).<br />
