Keukenhof Awards
Bouvardias and Carnations
Keukenhof’s Bouvardia Show
proved that even a small flower
can have a huge potential. The
event coincided with the official
launch of the high profile
Bouvardia-Make-Every-Moment-
Special campaign.
In the VKC Quality Competition
breeding company Royal van
Zanten, which acquired the Bouvardia
nursery of John de Jong in
Roelofarendsveen in 2009, took
home the Keukenhof Awardfor
their Bouvardia ‘Diamond
Darkpink’ (9.48 points), while
Bouvardia grower Jaap Vreeken
from Rijsenhout ended second
with his ‘Royal Daphe Fresco’,
which was good for 9.36 points.
The Bouvardia Show ran parallel
to the Carnation Show where
grower Zuurbier form Heerhugowaard
was presented with the
Keukenhof Carnation Award
for their standard carnation
‘Hilnotre Notre Dame’. In spray
carnations grower André van
Kester took the first prize with
his Dianthus ‘White
Fleurette’(9.48 points).

Exotic Phalaenopsis beauty.
Orchids
In large flowered cut Cymbidium
grower Ronald Ammerlaan
took home the first prize with
his orange ‘Manon’ which was
given 9.50 points, while in small
flowered Cymbidium grower Leo
v.d. Helm from Nootdorp was
presented with an Award for his
‘Sultan’. In potted Cymbidium
Ruiter Orchids form Andijk took
home an award for its ‘Dorothy
Stockstill’ (9.40 points).
In large flowered potted Phalae-
nopsis Piko Plant from Nootdorp
swept the boards by occupying the
first five places in the VKC Quality
Competition.. Piko’s ‘Fancy’ was
recognised as overall winner and
was good for a Keukenhof Award.
In small flowered potted Phalaenopsis
grower Pannekoek from Berkel
and Rodenrijs won the first prize
for their ‘Tiny Doll’. The VKC jury
praised this Phalaenopsis for its
sturdy long stems, uniform flowering
and perfect growth habit. |||
