Central Detective Training School, Kolkata<br />

The Central Detective Training School, Kolkata was established in 1958,<br />

is headed by Principal (An Officer <strong>of</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong> Superintendent <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Police</strong>) <strong>and</strong> is assisted by one Vice-Principal, 7 Deputy Superintendents<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> (faculty members), two Inspectors <strong>and</strong> 9 Constables to run the<br />

training courses. The School organizes about 17 training courses in a<br />

training calendar ending March each year. Out <strong>of</strong> these, 17 training<br />

courses, two courses are on Scientific Investigation (Advanced) <strong>and</strong> 13<br />

weeks duration each, while remaining courses are short-term courses.<br />

The Central Detective Training School, Ch<strong>and</strong>igarh established in 1974,<br />

is headed by Principal (An Officer <strong>of</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong> Superintendent <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Police</strong>) <strong>and</strong> is assisted by one Vice-Principal, 7 Deputy Superintendents<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> (faculty members), two Inspectors <strong>and</strong> 8 Constables to run the<br />

training courses. The School organizes about 17 training courses in a<br />

training calendar ending March each year. Out <strong>of</strong> these, 17 training<br />

courses, two courses are on Scientific Investigation (Advanced) <strong>and</strong> 13<br />

weeks duration each, while remaining courses are short-term courses.<br />

On similar lines, the Government <strong>of</strong> India have set up two more<br />

Central Detective Training Schools (CDTSs) in Ghaziabad <strong>and</strong><br />

Jaipur under the 11th Five Year Plan. The CDTS to be set up in<br />

Ghaziabad has already been allotted l<strong>and</strong> by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Urban<br />

Development, Government <strong>of</strong> India. The l<strong>and</strong> for CDTS in Jaipur is likely<br />

to be allotted by the Government <strong>of</strong> Rajasthan shortly.<br />

The Government <strong>of</strong> India has also approved setting up <strong>of</strong> Central<br />

Academy for <strong>Police</strong> Training (CAPT) in Bhopal under the 11th<br />

Five Year Plan for basic training <strong>of</strong> directly recruited Deputy<br />

Superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>of</strong> the States, Training <strong>of</strong> Trainers <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong><br />

personnel <strong>of</strong> States <strong>and</strong> Central <strong>Police</strong> Organizations <strong>and</strong> Specialized<br />

Training Courses for the <strong>Police</strong> Officers <strong>of</strong> the States <strong>and</strong> Central <strong>Police</strong><br />

Organizations.<br />

The objectives <strong>of</strong> setting up <strong>of</strong> the these training institutions are to<br />

impart training to the Investigating Officers from different parts <strong>of</strong> the<br />

country by using scientific aids to investigation right from the rank <strong>of</strong><br />

Assistant Sub Inspector <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> to Dy. Superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong>. These<br />
