The pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff <strong>of</strong> Pupil Services are<br />

committed to the success <strong>of</strong> all students in an<br />

educational setting. These services maintain<br />

census, records and attendance information, as<br />

well as the following:<br />

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY<br />

<strong>School</strong> psychologists provide important<br />

support to assist students in achieving<br />

maximal benefits from their educational<br />

programs. Their services include support for<br />

prevention <strong>of</strong> educational and behavioral<br />

problems through early consultation with<br />

school staff and parents, identification<br />

<strong>of</strong> students’ strengths and needs through<br />

observation, psychological and other<br />

assessment, individual and group counseling,<br />

development and implementation <strong>of</strong> primary<br />

prevention, social skills and esteem-building<br />

programs, positive behavioral interventions,<br />

parent education, crisis intervention and other<br />

services.<br />

SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK<br />

<strong>School</strong> social workers are resources for the<br />

delivery <strong>of</strong> school-based support services,<br />

working as liaisons between schools, families,<br />

and community programs and agencies.<br />

Emphasis is placed on collaboration and<br />

coordination <strong>of</strong> services. By utilizing the social<br />

history, and other assessments, social workers<br />

collaborate with parents, teachers and other<br />

staff as part <strong>of</strong> a multidisciplinary team in<br />

interpreting children’s needs.<br />

Pupil Services<br />

ATTENDANCE/TRUANCY<br />

Attendance teachers are essential participants<br />

in the district’s efforts toward attendance<br />

improvement and dropout prevention. They<br />

provide outreach, through home visits to<br />

students and families to address attendance<br />

problems before they become chronic. They<br />

serve as liaisons with community agencies<br />

and family court. Through residency<br />

verification and investigations, attendance<br />

teachers help to ensure that the district’s<br />

resources are reserved for <strong>New</strong> <strong>Rochelle</strong><br />

residents.<br />

WORK PERMIT APPLICATIONS<br />

Work permits are required by law for students<br />

under 18. Information about procedures and<br />

application forms are available from the school<br />

nurse, or from the census <strong>of</strong>fice located on the<br />

third floor <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> Hall, 515 North Ave.<br />

CENSUS<br />

A continuous census is maintained <strong>of</strong> resident<br />

minors enrolled in public and non-public<br />

schools in and outside the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Rochelle</strong>. Pupil population data includes<br />

individual and family information essential for<br />

district projects. All working papers are issued<br />

by the Census Office.<br />

CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR PHONE<br />

Any change <strong>of</strong> a student’s personal status,<br />

such as change <strong>of</strong> address (including<br />

apartment number), telephone number or<br />

family name, should be reported to the school<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice. Parents must also notify the school <strong>of</strong><br />

changes in telephone numbers w<strong>here</strong> they may<br />

be reached in cases <strong>of</strong> emergency. Personal<br />

information will be kept confidential.<br />
