5. Philately: Olympic Charter In force as from 8 July 2011 The IOC encourages, in collaboration with the NOCs of the countries concerned, the use of the Olympic symbol on postage stamps issued in liaison with the IOC by the competent national authorities, subject to the conditions set forth by the IOC. 6. Musical works: The OCOG and the NOC of the host city and country shall ensure that the procedure for designation of the IOC as owner of the copyright on any musical works specifically commissioned in connection with the Olympic Games occurs to the satisfaction of the IOC. 27
15 Legal Status Olympic Charter In force as from 8 July 2011 The International Olympic Committee (IOC) 1. The IOC is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organisation, of unlimited duration, in the form of an association with the status of a legal person, recognised by the Swiss Federal Council in accordance with an agreement entered into on 1 November 2000. 2. Its seat is in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Olympic capital. 3. The object of the IOC is to fulfil the mission, role and responsibilities as assigned to it by the Olympic Charter. 4. In order to fulfil its mission and carry out its role, the IOC may establish, acquire or otherwise control other legal entities such as foundations or corporations. 29
