In such case, the cessation of membership will be established by decision of the<br />

Session upon the proposal of the IOC Executive Board.<br />

3.6 Members elected as active athletes:<br />

Any IOC member as defined in Rule 16.1.1.2 above ceases to be a member upon<br />

ceasing to be a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.<br />

3.7 Presidents and persons holding an executive or senior leadership position within<br />

NOCs, world or continental associations of NOCs, IFs or associations of IFs or<br />

other organisations recognised by the IOC:<br />

Any IOC member as defined in Rule 16.1.1.3 or Rule 16.1.1.4 ceases to be a<br />

member upon ceasing to exercise the function he was exercising at the time of<br />

his election.<br />

3.8 Expulsion:<br />

3.8.1 An IOC member may be expelled by decision of the Session if such<br />

member has betrayed his oath or if the Session considers that such<br />

member has neglected or knowingly jeopardised the interests of the IOC<br />

or acted in a way which is unworthy of the IOC.<br />

3.8.2 The decision to expel an IOC member is taken by the Session upon the<br />

proposal of the IOC Executive Board. Such decision requires a majority<br />

of two-thirds of the votes cast. The member concerned has the right to<br />

be heard; such right includes the right to be acquainted with the charges<br />

and the right to appear personally or to submit a defence in writing.<br />

3.8.3 Until the Session decides on an expulsion proposal, the IOC Executive<br />

Board may provisionally suspend the member concerned and deprive<br />

such member of all or part of the rights, prerogatives and functions<br />

deriving from his membership.<br />

3.8.4 A member expelled from the IOC may not be a member of an NOC, an<br />

association of NOCs or an OCOG.<br />
