NOW ON STAGE!!
The Producers
by Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan
April 20-May 13, 2012
The Producers is a stage musical adapted from Mel
Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name. It concerns two
theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling
interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise
when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful.
The humor of the show draws on ridiculous accents,
caricatures of Nazis, and many show business in-jokes.
Announcing our 2012-13 Slate of Shows
“Willy Wonka”
August 17 – September 9, 2012
Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this
stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. A scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
Let Willy Wonka take you and your family on a fantasy ride into the land of pure imagination! “Willy Wonka” is
presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
“Pippin”
October 12 - 28, 2012
A young prince and heir to the throne of Charlemagne, we follow Pippin as he searches for happiness in beauty,
glory and fame. On his journey he has to come to grips with lust, sex, war and politics. A hip, tongue-in-cheek,
anachronistic fairy tale that captivated Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere.
The energetic pop-influenced score by three-time Oscar®-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz
bursts with one show-stopping number after another, from soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers. “Pippin”
is presented through special arrangement with MTI.
“A Christmas Story”
November 23 – December 9, 2012
The only thing little Ralphie Parker hopes to find under the tree is a Daisy Brand Red Ryder BB rifle. He doesn’t
simply want it—he’s consumed with an aching desire for it. Looming in the way, however, are alleyway bullies,
major awards, freezing flagpoles, unsympathetic authorities and a certain horrifying Macy’s Santa. Based upon the
classic motion picture, this play is a holiday treat everyone can enjoy—that is, until someone shoots their eye
out. “A Christmas Story” is presented through special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing.
“Into the Woods”
January 18 – February 3, 2013
An ambivalent Cinderella A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood A Prince Charming with a roving eye A
Witch...who raps They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured
fairy tale. What begins a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and
the stories we tell our children. One of Sondheim's most popular works, “Into the Woods” is a timeless yet relevant
piece and a rare modern classic. Presented through special arrangement with MTI.
“A Streetcar Named Desire”
March 1 - 17, 2013
Tennessee Williams' heartbreaking tale of a lost soul, one of the most popular and acclaimed works in American
stage history. Blanche DuBois, an aging Southern belle, sets out on a collision course with reality as she travels to
New Orleans to live with her sister Stella and her brutish husband Stanley which leads to a revelation of her
tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness. Presented through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Services,
Inc.

SLT’s 50th Anniversary Season
“Show Boat”
April 19 – May 12, 2013
Spanning the years from 1880 to 1927, this lyrical masterpiece concerns the lives, loves and heartbreaks of three
generations of show folk on the Mississippi, in Chicago and on Broadway. The arrival of “Show Boat” was a watershed
moment in the history of American musicals, being the first Broadway score ever to have a coherent
plot and integrated songs. The musical contributed such classic songs as "Ol' Man River," "Make Believe," and
"Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man.” Presented through special arrangement with R&H.
“A Year with Frog and Toad”
September 15-24, 2012
Arnold Lobel's well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in “A Year with Frog and Toad.” Come
along as we follow two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four
fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed to plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and
go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in
the attributes that make each of us different and special. Presented through special arrangement with MTI.
“Stellaluna”
May 17-26, 2013
Stellaluna has her world literally turned upside down when she is adopted by a loving family of birds. The only
problem is...she's a bat! In this humorous and touching story about being who you are, see how this adorable
baby fruit bat discovers the essence of friendship. Stellaluna, a play based on the celebrated book by Janell Cannon,
President’s
Message
As we enter the last quarter of the season we find ourselves excited about “The Producers”
opening on April 20th as well as our newly announced slate for the 2012-2013 season.
We feel that we have a slate of shows that has something for everyone, some favorites
repeated and some new challenging material. Also included in this newsletter is a
survey that we encourage you to fill out and return. It is intended to produce information
concerning the memberships wishes and directions they would like the organization to
take. We are looking forward to our May 14th General Membership meeting. It is usually
the one time during our season where the membership gets to speak directly to the
board as a group. Last year’s meeting produced a directive that will be reported on
and this meeting will provide the opportunity for those issues and others to be further
addressed. We hope to see you there.
Technical Theatre Training
Are you not an on stage person, but would love to be involved with Theatre
Did you ever wonder where or how those sound clips happen
Were you ever curious about what those large black things that hang from the ceiling are all about
Did you ever wonder what it takes to be one of those people in black who show up on stage in the dark
WELL…..we have the answers for you……
The YATS Program of Slidell Little Theatre is offering Technical Theatre Training.
The Technical Theatre Training Pilot program, under the direction of Julie Indest, will focus on lights, sound, set construction,
Stage Management, and Stage Crew. Master Technical Theatre instructors will present the principles of design coupled
with hands-on learning. The program culminates by applying the knowledge and skills learned to assist with YATS Productions.
Julie Indest, a YATS graduate, attended the University of Southern Mississippi majoring in Stage Management. Julie worked
professionally as a Stage Manager in Atlanta for several years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the
YATS Technical Theatre program.
This program is open to all students entering the 8 th grade in the fall of 2012 though adults (young and young at heart). This
is a great family activity to learn the behind the scenes aspects of theatre. The program begins early June and will run for six
weeks (mainly Saturday and Sundays). For additional information and registration forms email YATS at
yats2012@gmail.com or for questions call Roberta Hazelbaker at 985-285-0013 or Rose Kennedy at 985-863-9764.
A Message from Ron Uhler / Box Office
I would like to talk about RESERVATIONS. Reservations are for the purpose of securing a seat
for the performance. When reservations are made for more than are going to show up for the
performance, it stops others from being able to make theirs. To clarify that, when enough people
make reservations for a large party, it may trigger the early cutoff of the reservation lines.
Then at the time of the performance, we are told in the box office that some of the party can’t
make it. When total reservations reach a certain level, the phone and online reservations are
cut off from accepting reservations. If we had been told ahead of time that the some of the party
of the reservation will not be attending, it may be enough to allow the reservation lines to remain
open longer and allow more people to make reservations. So, it is important that we are
informed in advance of the performance if everyone in the party will not be attending.
We are still working on being able to pay for tickets when the reservation is made online.
What about the phone reservations We are working on that too. For those who make reservations
by phone, the phone message will be sent to the computer and automatically logged in
whereby I can play your message and also see it printed out. This will be a great improvement
and virtually no calls will be missed. The final step will be the automatic creation of the seating
chart. That can actually be done now, but with some readjusting afterwards. It can’t account for
certain seating requests. That’s where the adjustments by me come in. Future improvements
for the box office look promising.
Don’t forget “The Producers” is coming up next. Hope to see you all then.
