thrives in busy
North Hills location
Since Goodwill’s Gibsonia store
opened in January, it has blossomed
into one of the busiest and most
productive outlets in the agency’s
network of thrift shops. Located at
the high-traffic intersection of Route
910 and Route 8, in a building that
was previously a pharmacy, it is right
across from the busy Northtown
Square Mall which includes a Giant
Eagle, a Starbucks, and a Post Office.
“There’s no question that
we benefit greatly from our prime
location and from the high-quality
donations we receive from the upscale
communities in our area,” said Store
Manager Rose Paris. “On a typical
Saturday, we receive 100 to 120
donations, and those top-of-the-line
donations keep customers coming to
the store.”
A recent unusual donation was
a two-person kayak. “It wasn’t even
on our sales floor for two days before

special find,” Ms. Paris said. “The
housewares department is our primary
sales driver. It is staffed by three
experienced processors who make sure
we get top dollar for every special find
they come across.”

who was recently appointed Director
of Northside Common Ministries, an
affiliate of Goodwill SWPA. He was
formerly Goodwill’s Admissions
Director and has been with the
agency for 18 years.

A die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan,
President/CEO Mike Smith reluctantly
wore the jersey of Green Bay
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers
to work one day shortly after the
Steelers’ 31-25 Super Bowl loss in
February. He donned the “green and
gold” to pay off his bet with the CEO
of the Green Bay area Goodwill, Bob
Pederson. And, to make it even worse,
Mike also had to wear the jersey
for a full day during Goodwill’s
annual Conference of Executives
in Charleston, S.C., the following
week.
