Jay and Jennifer Beck opened Vickery Place Personal Care Home on February 10th of this year. Jennifer, who<br />
has worked in the medical field for over 20 years, has always had a passion for the elderly, who are often underappreciated<br />
and neglected. Now that their children are grown, they realized they have the perfect home to start their<br />
own personal <strong>care</strong> home, and moved forward with their plans of a quality personal <strong>care</strong> home in Lavonia.<br />

What made you decide<br />
to open your own personal<br />
<strong>care</strong> home<br />
Jennifer: The house<br />
was actually our home<br />
for many years before<br />
we converted it into<br />
the personal <strong>care</strong> home,<br />
and we wanted to give<br />
it back to the community in a meaningful<br />
way. We also saw a need for quality assisted<br />
<strong>care</strong> options, and hope to make a<br />
difference in the community by providing<br />
these services.<br />
HTN <strong>Magazine</strong>: What sets your<br />
business apart from other businesses in<br />
the area<br />
Jennifer: We have an amazing staff.<br />
Each staff member is<br />
smart, compassionate<br />
and energetic – they<br />
are the foundation of<br />
our home and we know<br />
everyone will appreciate<br />
them as much as we<br />
do! The house is classic<br />
and unique, and is in a<br />
great location. We are in<br />
downtown Lavonia, which is such a great<br />
community, and only 2 miles from the<br />
new hospital.<br />

are you offering the area<br />
Jennifer: The staff of Vickery Place<br />
is available 24/7 and is trained to assist<br />
residents with activities of daily living<br />
(dressing, bathing, grooming, etc.). They<br />

also provide healthy, home cooked meals,<br />
housekeeping and laundry services, fun<br />
and therapeutic activities that promote<br />
physical, mental and social well-being,<br />
medication supervision, and facilitation of<br />
supportive medical services. We also have<br />
quality amenities including an indoor spa<br />
for residents to enjoy.<br />
HTN <strong>Magazine</strong>: How much planning,<br />
renovation, work was involved in<br />
opening your new business<br />
Jennifer: It has taken 2 years to prepare<br />
for opening. The house has been adapted<br />
to suit to the physical and comfort needs<br />
of senior adults, including a jetted, walkin<br />
tub. We also had to obtain re-zoning<br />
from the city of Lavonia, and complete the<br />
state application and licensing process.<br />
