2008 Rwanda Mission Appeal
Today you heard Fr. Leszek Czelusniak MIC
speak about the growth and development of
the Marian Rwanda mission and their service
to the poor and unfortunate. A large part of
their ministry is to help Rwandan Catholics
grow in faith, hope and charity. One way is to
share insights from the apparition of Mary in
Rwanda, Our Lady of Kibeho. St. Peter parish
is proud to support, in solidarity, this mission. In fact
it was a St. Peter parishioner, Mr. Mark Debish, who designed
the banners hanging in our sanctuary and in the
Marian Missions sites.
If you were not able to contribute to today’s collection,
please contribute directly to the Marian Helper’s Center
which coordinates support for the mission. Their address

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
.
In Gratitude We received a letter
from Care Net Family Resource Center
which expressed a great deal of gratitude
for all who gave gifts at our parish baby
shower two weeks ago. The letter is
posted on the bulletin board in the lobby for those who
would like to read it along with an itemized list of what
was donated. We donated 7,854 baby care items, 2 strollers,
1 car seat, baby toiletry items, 410 clothing items and
23 other miscellaneous items
totaling 8,429 donated items! One part of the letter reads
“At a time when so many Americans are cutting back and
actually hoarding personal wealth, your generosity truly is
distinctive and exemplary. It is an obvious testament to
your commitment to protecting the sanctity of human life,
as well as your adherence to the admonition of Scripture
to provide for the spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing
of one’s neighbor.”
A special thank you to Fr. Robert Vennetti MIC whose
leadership and direction made this Spiritual Adoption
Program so successful. Thanks also to our Prayer and
Worship Committee for their hard work and for all those
who fervently prayed for all the unborn babies and their
mothers the past 9 months. This was a great opportunity
for us to grow spiritually and at the same time give a face
and name to the many human lives that are in danger of
being destroyed before they ever have a chance to take a
breath. Please continue to pray for unborn babies and
mothers who may feel frightened or unsupported in their
pregnancy that God would embrace them all in His loving
and tender care.
Pick Up Anniversary Pictures Wedding photos
that were dropped off at the rectory for our Anniversary
celebration last month are still waiting to be picked up.
Also, photos that were taken of all the couples at the gathering
can be picked up at the rectory too. Thank you!
Eucharistic Procession Thanks Praised be
Jesus Christ for the splendid summer-like day as we
walked in our 4th Annual Eucharistic Procession. A
special thank you to all our Priests and our Deacon who
were leading the way. The Altar servers of both parishes
did a great job. It is no easy task to carry flags, banners
and a crucifix this far. You are so appreciated! The much
needed sound system worked excellently. We thank the
generous donor for this gift. Thank you to Jim Brandt &
Jerome for carry the speakers. Also to our members of the
Police Department for keeping us safe. Mark your calendars
for next year October 11 at 1:30 pm.
School News
Congratulations to
our 2008-09 Student Council officers and
representatives. The first meeting is next
Wednesday, October 1st. All of the students’
speeches were well written and delivered
articulately. Your posters were so colorful and
meaningful. I commend all who ran for positions!

Bereavement Mass Prayer & Worship with the
Bereavement Committee will host a Bereavement Mass
on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 pm. Have you had someone
special pass away in the last five years that you would
like remembered during this Mass? If so, please fill out
the form in the back of the church and put in the collection
basket or give to the usher at the Mass you attend.
Shalom Center Volunteers Thanks to
Mary Lindblad, Kathy Uhl, Benita Hynes, Mary
& Chris Kessenich, Marge Tunkieicz, Lillian
Jilk, & Paula Thomas who prepared and served a meal for
82 homeless people and folks with limited means at the
Shalom Center. The next shift will be Friday November 7.

Bible Study This week in our Bible Study
“The Bible and The Mass”, we will cover what
Jesus meant when He said, “This is the Blood of
the New Covenant”. Understanding Covenant is
essential to understanding what Jesus established. Even if
you missed the first session, please join us on Wednesday
at 7 pm in the clubroom. Bring your bible and if you have

Using the Name of God The U.S. bishops’
Committee on Divine Worship recently announced a new
directive from the Vatican regarding the use of the name
of God in the sacred liturgy. Specifically, the word
"Yahweh" may no longer be "used or pronounced" in
songs and prayers during liturgical celebrations. The decision
was based on long-standing Jewish and Christian
traditions of not pronouncing the divine name wherever it
occurs in the biblical text. You may notice some small
changes to a few songs that are sung during Mass from
what is printed in your missals.
Unfortunately, at the time the directive was announced,
the 2009 editions of these books had already been printed
and, in many cases, shipped. The 2010 editions will include
revised versions of the songs with updated texts.

Election Recommendation We strongly urge all
parishioners to register, become informed on key issues,

candidate, but seeks to focus attention on the moral and
human dimensions of issues. We do not authorize the distribution

An Olympic effort Swimmers captured the headlines
over the summer at the Beijing Olympics. A few
months after Michael Phelps' record setting performance,
a local Catholic swimmer also competed in the same pool
where Phelps collected his medals. While he didn't come
home with a medal from the Paralympic Games, St. Francis
Borgia parishioner, Tom Miazga, who has limited use
of his legs due to cerebral palsy, is by anyone's standards
a winner in the game of life. Read about his accomplishments

World Priest Day October 26 is the celebration of
World Priest Day. World Priest Day is a celebration and
affirmation of the men who commit their lives to the Lord
and the Church via the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Take a
moment next Sunday to say thank you to our priests.
Roots of Faith: Catholic Basics for Adults
Do you feel like your children know more about the
Catholic faith than you do? Do you have a desire to learn
more about what our Church teaches and believes? Roots
of Faith is an ongoing, monthly series which provides
basic information about the Catholic faith, and an opportunity
to pose questions on the selected topic. Each month
you have two opportunities to participate in a 90-minute
presentation and discussion focused on a core teaching or
practice of the Church. This month, the topic will be:
“Catholic Traditions: Saints, Holydays, and Holidays,”
presented by Danny Rodriguez from St. Mark’s. This will
be a delightful and entertaining presentation on the way
the Church has celebrated certain men and women who
have lived the Paschal Mystery and honored them as
saints, as well as some of the customs and traditions that
have evolved through the centuries. Dates and times: St.
Mary’s Parish Center, Monday, October 20 at 7 pm and
St. Therese Church (Lower Level) on Sunday, October 26
at 1 pm. Family rated for all ages, please come and join
us, and realize that even today, in our very own lives,
there are rich opportunities given to us all to become
saints, as well! Celebrate our Holydays, and enjoy the
upcoming holidays…
