play. Accordingly, the match against Polonia Mielec Chicago S.C. had to be
rescheduled to a later date.
The Over 30 Team finally took to the field on April 26, 2008
0-2 against Vikings at the Schwaben Center in Buffalo Grove,
Illinois. The line-up had to be shuffled as many of the regular team members
were out of town. The game also marked the Over 30 Team debut of the
aged Mitch Lechowski, Rob Czop and Herb Sherry.
The first half of the game was played to a scoreless draw, but there were
plenty of opportunities for both sides. John “JP” Parsinen neatly rounded
several defenders to go in on goal, but the keeper did well to thwart his low
struck shot. Mitch Lechowski also saw a shot drift just wide of the left post.
Of course, other opportunities were wasted as Todd Schneider, subbing in
from the Over 40s for the depleted squad, saw his open effort from 25 yards
hit the upper half of the backstop netting. Not to be out done, Greg
(hereinafter known as “House”) Boltz incredibly managed to clear the backstop,
sending a shot into the surrounding community.
In the second half, however, Green White sharpened their focus and the
break through came at about the 60 minute mark of the match. Chris Wixon
received the ball from the defense near midfield on the left side and found JP
tracking back in the middle. JP turned the ball and distributed to House as
he raced into the right corner. As the defense crowded into the box for the
expected cross, House deftly turned inside his defender and played the ball
back into space for a streaking Rob Czop, who hit the ball first time from 18
yards out with a dipping shot that found the left side netting. For his effort,
Rob was drilled into the ground just as he hit the game winner. Indeed, from
thereon out things got chippy as the Vikings felt the game slipping away.
Green White sealed the victory 15 minutes later on a similar goal. This time,
Chris Wixon found Derrick Wilkinson in the right corner. Derrick cut the
