A.18 Underway Emergency Response Policy<br />
A.18.a <strong>Auxiliary</strong> operational facilities under orders will respond <strong>to</strong> SAR as<br />
directed SECTOR SCC.<br />
A.18.b When a facility locates a potential SAR case while out boating, (not under<br />
orders), if an approved operational facility has a qualified Coxswain and<br />
<strong>the</strong> required number of qualified crewmembers aboard, <strong>the</strong> facility may<br />
be issued verbal orders by <strong>the</strong> SCC. The Auxiliarist must provide <strong>the</strong><br />
SCC with <strong>the</strong> vessel's name, <strong>Auxiliary</strong> call sign, and confirm that <strong>the</strong>re is<br />
<strong>the</strong> required qualified crew on board <strong>the</strong> vessel. SECTOR will advise <strong>the</strong><br />
facility of <strong>the</strong> order and case numbers by <strong>the</strong> most rapid means available.<br />
A.19 Certain prohibited activities<br />
Auxiliarist shall NOT:<br />
A.19.a Conduct Vessel Safety Check (VSC) while underway. If moored and on<br />
standby, Auxiliarists may conduct VSCs while under Official Patrol<br />
Orders.<br />
A.19.b Perform VSC’s upon vessels <strong>the</strong>y have <strong>to</strong>wed unless <strong>the</strong> rescued vessel<br />
specifically requests a VSC.<br />
A.20 Multi-day Patrols<br />
During events requiring significant sustained <strong>Auxiliary</strong> presence, some patrols<br />
may be designated as two-day patrols and orders will be so noted. Vessels<br />
executing <strong>the</strong>se patrols may standby at a local <strong>Coast</strong> Guard Station, if <strong>the</strong> station<br />
is within <strong>the</strong> patrol area. Two-day patrols normally secure at 2000 daily or at <strong>the</strong><br />
discretion of <strong>the</strong> station CO/OIC. The facility must notify <strong>the</strong> controlling station<br />
before securing for <strong>the</strong> night.<br />
