Important Notice Relating to the Nature of the Hobby
Whilst Curious Pastimes Ltd. takes all due steps to minimise the risk to customers, the nature of
the game is such that customers are likely to be involved in fights involving LRP weapons and
this carries with it a risk of injury due to bad luck or misuse of the equipment. Similarly these
events often take place on uneven surfaces and areas with trees and undergrowth, and certain
activities also happen where lighting is less than ideal. By booking to attend an event a customer
acknowledges that these risks are an inherent part of the activity and also acknowledges that the
primary responsibility for their safety in these circumstances rests with themselves.
Battles and Safety
We at Curious Pastimes Ltd. pride ourselves on the fact that our battles run for longer and are
more realistic than some of our competitors, we could not achieve this without your help and
efforts so thank you once again. Also, and arguably more importantly we have an excellent health
and safety record with minimal injuries and accidents and we wish to continue and improve this
excellent record further, so please take the time to read the following section carefully. Even the
best organised and run battles can encounter problems so we ask that you follow these simple
rules when participating in our battles. Always follow the instructions of any member of Curious
Pastimes staff, always try to remain calm whatever the circumstances even if IC your character is
panicking, always make sure that you carry water with you or know where a supply is located do
not dehydrate, make sure that you understand all of the calls that may be made in a battle (see
below) and know how you should react, always try to be aware of the terrain and what is happening
around you, try to remember that there may not be time for a member of Curious Pastimes staff to
discuss or debate a decision at the time so please try to see them later to discuss it and finally always
try to have fun! We recognise that battles can be noisy and intimidating places for some people,
they are for us as well so please try to understand that all the staff have a job to do as well as a duty
to your enjoyment and safety and to forgive them if they are a little short with an explanation or
curt with an answer as they are forgiving of customer actions within a battle.
Water Carriers on the Battlefield
We recommend that all participants carry a suitable receptacle of water at all times during a Battle
or Skirmish. All Factions should have IC water carriers available at all times during all Battles
who can be approached for fresh water, they in turn can then replenish their stock from either
any available standpipes or from non combatant OOC water carriers. OOC water carriers are not
allowed to enter a Battle or Skirmish site at any time due to Health and safety reasons. All OOC
water carriers must wear OOC clothes that cannot be confused with costume.
Man Down Procedure
In the event of a ‘Man Down’ call the Refs and Event Staff within the vicinity of the Man Down Call
will ask all participants within that area to immediately kneel down so that the Event Management
and Medical Team’s can easily identify the location. We also do this to try to ensure that a ‘Man
Down’ call in one area does not stop the whole Battle unless it is necessary. If the Medical Team
deems the injury to be serious then there will be a complete ‘Time Out’ called by one long blow of
whistles. Once you hear this please stop fighting immediately and kneel down. When the incident
has been cleared you will be informed by Event Staff and the Battle Refs to stand up and you will be
counted back into ‘Time In’. Please do not move your position during these incidents unless Event
