Rare EU/JP Games
PLAYSTATION COLLECTING IS NOT solely an
American endeavor. 1425 games have been released in
Europe, and nearly 4000 were put out in Japan. Collectors
in both regions are currently hard at work putting
together comprehensive local rarity lists, a feat which we
will not duplicate here. Nonetheless, we provide a taste
of what’s available overseas on the following pages. Here
you can find a selection of rare titles in Japan and Europe,
all unreleased in the US, which might be of interest
to importers. Of course, this list is by no means comprehensive
- it will no doubt be some time before a collector
manages a full international PS collection.
Megaman Battle & Chase
Europe | SLES-00766 | 1998
MEGAMAN BATTLE & CHASE, THE FIRST ever
Megaman 3D racing game, was slated for a US release but
Capcom USA decided to scrap the project. Grab yourself
one of 10 cars and let it rip over 32 different tracks, all of
them loaded with challenges, not to mention treacherous
opponents! After every win you can nick bits off the losers’
cars and tune up your own. 10 well-known characters
from the Megaman world appear, each with his own special
car and dedicated weapons. The 2-player split-screen mode
is a riot. This title was also released in Japan as “Rockman
Battle & Chase.” The very limited release of the full-English
European version has meant this title is highly desired;
it routinely commands a price over $30.
Gussun Paradise
Japan | SLPS-00588 | 1996
GUSSUN PARADISE IS A BRIGHT and colorful mixture
of Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, and Bomberman.
Guss and Yodie leap from platform to platform avoiding
enemies who do their best to destroy them. By throwing or
jumping on the bombs, Guss and Yodie can ignite a two
second fuse. On detonation, the bomb will destroy all enemies
in the vicinity. Destroy all of the enemies within the
allotted time to progress to the next level. The graphics in
Gussun Paradise are simple, but well-executed parallax scrolling
effects impress. Released in Europe as “Yo Yo’s Puzzle
Park.”
