Martial Beat
Japan | SLPM-87014 | 1998
SO YOU THINK DANCE DANCE Revolution gives you
a good workout? Konami took DDR one step further and
added martial arts. Martial Beat is a motion sensing game
equipped with a non-touch sensor that recognizes the player’s
movements, sensing both the direction and timing of every
strike. In practice and fitness mode, the player is greeted by
a real life instructor who will perform a task and prompt
the player to perform the same moves, similar to Parappa
the Rapper. However, it is in attack mode where the fun
begins. Fight against an opponent by performing actual
martial arts moves. Martial Beat was released in Japan containing
a receiver which recognizes cordless sensors attached
to the player’s wrists and ankles. This is the closest one can
get to virtual reality on the PlayStation. A sequel was also
released in Japan.
Motor Toon G.P.
Japan | SLPS-10001 | 1994
POLY ENTERTAINMENT ARE THE geniuses behind
the best-selling Gran Turismo. Before the massive success
of GT, this developer was responsible for Motor Toon G.P.,
which was one of the first PlayStation games released in
Japan. Motor Toon was a cartoon racer that pushed the
technical envelope with state of the art graphics never before
seen in a racing game. Race against opponents while
gathering power ups to assist you along the way. Bright
colors and flat-color shading is used in order to provide a
true cartoon look. This game should not be confused with
the US release Motor Toon Grand Prix. Motor Toon Grand
Prix is actually the sequel of this game.
Little Big Adventure
Europe | SLES-00698 | 1997
JOIN TWINSEN, THE HERO PROPHET, on a surreal
adventure through fantastical worlds to discover the Legend.
Solve cryptic clues and defeat bad guys as you guide
Twinsen to his destiny. This little known game is a port of
the best-selling PC game “Twinsen’s Odyssey,” originally released
by Activision in the US. Little Big Adventure was
released in Japan, but because the game is text-heavy the
English-language European version is more desirable to importers.
The game sells for over $30.
