12 Education Costs We aim to ensure that Marian College is financially accessible for all families desiring an education for their child. We have kept the educational costs very low and our costs are the lowest of any non-government school in Victoria. In 2010, to make budgeting easier for families, all of the school costs have been brought together in one amount. This amount can be paid off throughout the school year. Parents will not be asked for further money for school programs (exception is the Year 11 Camp). An Affordable Education One of our Brigidine Core Values is to welcome all people- especially the most vulnerable. We want Marian College to be financially accessible to all familes who desire an education here. Marian College’s fees are reported to be the lowest of any Catholic Secondary school in Victoria. Our fees in 2010 for the year will be: First child $1450 Second child $1080 Third child $880 Fourth child $680 An All Inclusive Fee There is nothing more frustrating than to be constantly presented with demands to cover additional education costs during the year. Our fee covers all the tuition expenses, subject expenses and excursion and camp costs with the exception of the Year 11 Ski Trip. An additional charge covering the cost of hiring the equipment. No Subject Levies We do not charge any subject levies. Students can choose any subject without having to pay for material costs. A Flat Rate Fee The fee is a flat rate set across all year levels. We do not have higher fees for the higher year levels. The Year 12 fee is the same as the Year 7 fee. Family Discounts There are significant discounts for siblings to help families with two or more children at Marian College. Low Cost Booklists Textbooks are very expensive and are changed frequently. The cost of purchasing textbooks can be significant for families. We provide most textbooks for Year 7 to Year 10. The book list mainly includes consumables items. Fee Payments Parents are not required to make upfront fee payments. Payments can be made weekly, fortnightly, monthly, annually or at any other interval that suits the family. Direct Debit, Credit Card and Direct Deposit arrangements are available. Government Assistance The Educational maintenance Allowance (EMA) is available for holders of Health Care, Pensioner Health Benefits or Health Benefits cards. The EMA is around $450 and half is paid directly to the school. We put this half towards the fees.
Students who reach 16 years of age may be eligible for the Youth Allowance. School Start Bonus of $300 for families of Year 7 students. Brigidine Education Fund There is a Families who feel they would be unable to afford an education at Marian College may apply for assistance from this fund. Additional Costs 2011 School Dates Individual instrumental music tuition are an additional expense for students involved in these programs. These costs are added to the fees. Commencement Dates 2011 Tuesday 18th January Ballarat Books - Collection Day in St. Mary’s Hall Wednesday 27th January Office opens Tuesday 1st gebruary Staff return Friday 4th February School resumes for Year 7 and 12 students Monday 7th January School resumes for all students in Years 8 to 11. Student Term Dates 2011 Term 1 – Friday 4th February (Yrs 7 & 12 only) – Friday 8th April Term 2 – Wednesday 27th April– Friday 1st July Term 3 – Wednesday 20th July 20th – Thursday 22nd September Term 4 – Monday 10th October – Wednesday 7th December Year 7 Booklist This year the 2011 Marian College Booklists will be supplied by Ballarat Books. Book selling day will be scheduled in Tuesday 18th January, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hall, Princes Street Ararat (behind the Catholic Church). Lodgment via the internet is also available (see Booklist for instructions). If your books have been pre-paid, staff are happy to collect the parcel and hold it at the Front Office. All parcels which have not been paid for and are not collected on the day will be returned to Ballarat Books. Payment can be made by cash, credit card or cheque. (cheques made payable to Ballarat Books). Books cannot be addded to your school account. If parents are unable to collect their books on the book selling day, arrangements can be made with Ballarat Books for an appropriate time for collection. Tick all squares as required (unless bible and dictionary are handed on by a sibling). It is compulsory that students purchase a calculator for Maths, these are listed on the Booklist. Stationery Pack These are stationery requirements for subjects studied. Parents may choose to purchase these goods elsewhere, if so please purchase the quantities listed, it is compulsory for your child to have the required amount of binder books. 13
