Donor advised funds <strong>of</strong>fer donors the opportunity to<br />
remain involved in grantmaking by recommending<br />
distributions <strong>of</strong> either income or principal. Donor<br />
advised funds are <strong>of</strong>ten a preferable alternative to a<br />
private foundation. Gifts to advised funds make it<br />
possible for a donor to give appreciated stock or mutual<br />
fund shares and still support multiple charities,<br />
some <strong>of</strong> which may not be able to accept such assets.<br />
They also allow a donor to take a charitable income tax<br />
deduction without making a final determination as to<br />
the ultimate charitable recipient.<br />
