During the month of March, we collected 8.85 tons of paper and received a check for $177.02. This brings our recycling total to $12,641.63 for 558.31 tons of paper collected since we started the program in October, 2006! Lawrence Ave. in Chicago, will be hosting its annual Flea Market in the North Parking lot, from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Rental spaces are available for both vendors and crafters. May 15, 2011 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Acts 2:14a, 36-41 / 1 Pt 2:20b-25 / Jn 10:1-10 The power of a familiar voice over the phone amazes me. When my four-year-old nephew calls “Hi, Shaw!” (his nickname for me) over the phone, the very timbre of his voice melts my heart. Since my husband and I know each other’s voices, it takes me by surprise—in a good way—when he called me by name over the phone instead of saying “Hey, you,” or “Hi, sweetie.” Even though I’m an adult, my mother can still tell if I’m sad, angry, or worried just by how I say hello. The sound of a loved one’s voice can be almost as reassuring as the sight of that person next to you. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, John’s Gospel emphasizes the importance of the shepherd’s voice. In Jesus’ day, multiple flocks often inhabited one sheepfold, so it was key that each sheep become accustomed to its own shepherd’s voice. In this passage, Jesus is referring to himself as the good shepherd, the one who knows and calls each of us by name, But are we familiar with Jesus’ voice? Is his voice as recognizable as our spouse’s, our child’s, our grandparent’s? To become more familiar with Jesus’ voice, we must take the necessary time to listen to Jesus’ voice in prayer. We should use it well. But some of us have only snatches of time—brushing our teeth, waiting in the doctor’s office, or taking a shower.
