NATIONAL CHURCH APPEAL FOR EAST<br />
AFRICA<br />
As you will have seen from TV reports, the<br />
situation in East Africa has reached a dreadful<br />
‘tipping point’ due to the prolonged and severe<br />
drought. Up to 12 million people are at immediate<br />
risk, half <strong>of</strong> them children. To help provide much<br />
needed aid, it has been decided by Bishops that a<br />
National Church appeal for East Africa (for<br />
Trócaire) will take place on weekend <strong>of</strong><br />
23 rd /24 th July.<br />

BUILDING OF HOPE PROJECT<br />
The Building <strong>of</strong> Hope Charity (Co. Clare based)<br />
is looking for skilled and unskilled people to help<br />
construct a residential home for blind orphaned<br />
children in Mombasa, Kenya. Two hundred<br />
volunteers will travel in four separate groups <strong>of</strong><br />
fifty in January and February 2012 for ten days.<br />
€3,000 is the cost and it includes all materials,<br />
flights and accommodation. We will give you all<br />
the assistance you need with fundraising. Any<br />
help you can give to make a difference in the life<br />
<strong>of</strong> these children will be very rewarding.<br />

Working Vintage Harvest Day<br />
A Working Vintage Harvest Day will take<br />
place on Sun. 7 th August on the lands <strong>of</strong><br />
The Smyth Family, Limetree, <strong>Portarlington</strong>.<br />
The day will see a pre-1970 combine<br />
working, vintage cars, a single cylinder<br />
tractor challenge and vintage tractor pulling.<br />
The Laois Flying Club will have an air<br />
display for that extra bit <strong>of</strong> magic. Lots <strong>of</strong><br />
interesting side shows, parachute jumps,<br />
roasting pig, butter making display and<br />
much more. Raffle will take place at 5pm on<br />
the day. Proceeds in aid <strong>of</strong> Patients’ Fund,<br />
