bike, play football & speak English. But he has
also learned what it‟s like to have no home & to
live in fear. After the war Daniel & his family tried
to begin life again after retuning to their home.
Daniel‟s community is one of many where
Trocaire‟s work makes a real & lasting difference.

‘JOURNEY TO CROKER’
Journey to Croker is a programme for young
people aged 16-25 as part of the preparations for
the International Eucharistic Congress June 2012.
The programme will have monthly meetings and
young people are invited to come along to explore
their faith in a youthful setting. Meetings will have
a variety of fun activities, music, film, group tasks,
and there will be quiet time for reflection and
prayer. U18‟s need parental consent forms
completed. All are welcome please come along.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday
29 th February in The Community Arts Centre,
Mountmellick (opposite the Credit Union). Fliers

DIOCESAN EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS
A Place at the Table
As part of our preparation for the 50 th
International Eucharistic Congress in June 2012 a
Diocesan Eucharistic Congress will be held in
Carlow on March 9 th and 10 th . The theme is A
Place at the Table. There will be a number of
keynote speakers; Baroness Nuala O‟Loan, Fr.
Michael Drumm and Fr. Peter McVerry S.J. There
will also be a wide range of workshops (32 in
total) taking place in the Cathedral, Carlow
College and the Cathedral Parish Centre.

PORTARLINGTON SPRING CLEAN
As part of this year‟s „Spring Clean‟, Portarlington
Tidy Towns intend to organise the cleaning of
several areas in the town on Sat. 3 rd March from
10am & complete within 2 hrs. It will coincide
with the action weekend of the „Dirty old Town‟
Programme. Can anyone who wishes to have
their road or housing estate included in the clean
up contact David Maher on 086 3475357. The
Tidy Towns are asking people on the day to give
an hour or two to help. Gloves, rubbish bags & a
truck to transport the rubbish will be available.
INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING
RESILIANCE & KNOWN CHALLENGES
Meeting Tues. 28 th Feb. commencing 7.30pm in
Portarlington Community Centre. Following a 20
minute video outlining some of the challenges, we
will explore what we need to consider within our
lives to build resilience. Unemployment,
recession, adverse weather, rising food & fuel
prices all show us how susceptible we are to
systems beyond our control. An “Introduction to
Community Resilience” Course will be run in the
coming months.
