volunteers living in the lower Blue Mountains to be part of their storm and flood
response team.
“Being a volunteer in the SES is a great opportunity to learn a great variety of skills, help
your community and make new friends”, states SES Controller Costa Zakis.
“Our volunteers are trained to national standards in disaster rescue, storm response and
flood operation.”
Mr Zakis continue “We train in a variety of skills from chainsaw operations to map
reading and communication skills.”
Whilst the SES is responsible for responding to storm and flood events, the volunteers
also become involved in assisting other emergency services in times of need. The Unit
has in the past assisted the Police in search and rescue events as well as the Rural Fire
