said Drane, who headed<br />

for Washington State<br />

University following his<br />

the USS Enterprise before<br />

landingattheUCLAfilm<br />

school to do graduate studies.“Wewantedtomakeit<br />

stand alone. If anything we<br />

wanted the Web series to<br />

be like a prequel.”<br />

“Fear Clinic” is the continuingsagaofDr.Andover<br />

(Englund), who has created<br />

the “fear chamber” to help<br />

patients rid themselves of<br />

trauma-induced phobias<br />

bymakingthemdealwith<br />

their deepest fears. The<br />

cast also includes Thomas<br />

Dekker (TV’s “Terminator:<br />

The Sarah Connor Chronicles,”<br />

the 2010 remake of<br />

“Nightmare on Elm Street”<br />

and the current Rainn Wilson<br />

series “Backstrom”),<br />

FeonaDourif(thedaughterofBradDourif,thetitlevoiceofthe“Chucky”<br />

franchise) and Cory Taylor(thefrontmanofthe<br />

shock-rock band Slipknot,<br />

making his film debut).<br />

“It’s a great cast,” he<br />

said. “We were so lucky to<br />

getCory.Andwhatdoyou<br />

He’s the Vincent Price of<br />

his time.”<br />

Drane said the concept<br />

for “Fear Clinic” first came<br />

to him somewhere on the<br />

L.A. freeway system back<br />

in 2003.<br />

He was “listening to<br />

the news, hearing all the<br />

storiesaboutallthishorrible<br />

stuff, and I started<br />

thinking that terrorism<br />

wasturningusintoasocietyofphobics.Thethought<br />

Ihadwas,‘Weneedafear<br />

clinic.’ The fear chamber<br />

was the first concept, designedbyadoctorwhohad<br />

aspirationsofcuringthe<br />

incurable.”<br />

Of all of his writing<br />

(Drane has sold several<br />

other screenplays during<br />

histimeinL.A.,thefirst<br />

when he was still studying<br />

at UCLA), “Fear Clinic” is<br />

theonlyhorrorpiecehe’s<br />

everpenned.Hesaidhis<br />

first—appropriately,given<br />

hisNavyexperienceand<br />

Bremerton upbringing —<br />

was“abigactionpieceabout<br />

aNavyship.<br />

“(Horror is) a really easy,<br />

approachable genre, and<br />

there are lots of opportunitiestobreakin,”headded.<br />

“ButI’vealwaysbeenahorror<br />

film fan.”<br />

Drane still has deep roots<br />

in Kitsap (his mother still<br />

lives in the East Bremerton<br />

hisbiggestaspirationsisto<br />

“I’ve been in L.A. for 25<br />

years, but I still come up<br />

thereasmuchaspossible,”<br />

hesaid.“Ispendmysummersupthereasmuchas<br />

possible. “Since I was 12,<br />

I’ve always wanted to show<br />

a movie of mine at the Admiral,”hesaid.“I’dloveto<br />

be able to bring this movie<br />

up there and show it to everybody.”<br />
