SPARK MOTORSPORTS Updates<br />

What a tyre-shredding and rubber-burning Year 2010 for SPARK<br />

Motorsports! After ending the year on a good note as its sponsored<br />

driver, Ryuji Miki won third place in the final round of the Formula<br />

Drift Asia series at Dataran Merdeka on 18 to 19 December, SPARK<br />

Motorsports is all set up to build its power drift machine, an off-road<br />

Nissan Silvia S15.<br />

This is in accordance to its effort in showcasing its technical<br />

prowess. SPARK Motorsports is passionate and determined to build<br />

this power drift machine completely from scratch. Updates on this<br />

modification will be placed on SPARK Motorsports website weekly.<br />

O’YOUNG’S RACING<br />

PROGRAM FOR <strong>2011</strong><br />

Darryl O’Young has announced that he will be fighting for two motorsport<br />

championships this season - the FIA World Touring Car Championship <strong>2011</strong> (WTCC)<br />

with 22 rounds around the world, and also the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia <strong>2011</strong><br />

(PCCA) with 11 rounds in Asia. The 2010 WTCC rookie and Bamboo Engineering<br />

have spent one season together and all the personnel have remained intact for<br />

<strong>2011</strong> including team mate Yukinori Taniguchi.<br />

There will be no clashes in schedules between the WTCC and the PCCA and O’Young<br />

is pleased to be able to fight for both championships in <strong>2011</strong>. The 2-time PCCA<br />

champion emphasizes that “competing in Asia and staying close to my race fans in<br />

Hong Kong and China is important” to him and he “aims at nothing less than a 3rd<br />

PCCA championship title”.<br />

K4GP 24-HOURS<br />

ENDURANCE RACE<br />

Organised and promoted by Japan-based K4GP as<br />

an event to promote enjoyment in motorsports<br />

without any barriers and allowing the participation<br />

of handicapped people, the 24-hour endurance race<br />

– the third edition to be held in Sepang - saw Japan’s<br />

home team, Team Biba, taking the overall honours<br />

after it completed 458 laps around the 5.543-km<br />

Formula 1 circuit.<br />

Competing in his first car race in 16 years, wheelchair<br />

bound Adi Haslam who partnered a fellow<br />

handicap and former TV host Ras Adiba Radzi, led<br />

his Adi Haslam Motorsports team to win his class<br />

at Sepang’s K4GP 24-Hours Endurance; sending a<br />

message that handicapped people can participate<br />

and enjoy motor racing as well.<br />

A total 45 cars including seven Malaysian entries took<br />

part with all cars finishing the 24-hour race challenge.<br />

BRIAN WONG<br />

Team Absolute racing is proud to announce the signing of<br />

Chinese-American driver Brian Wong for the Porsche Carrera<br />

Cup Asia <strong>2011</strong>. At 17, Wong was the youngest to receive his<br />

Porsche racing license and progress again up the competition<br />

ladder. His racing ability was recognized in 2010 by Porsche<br />

Motorsports Motorsports with an invitation, as one of 12<br />

young race drivers in the world, to Germany<br />

and Italy for a driver assessment. In<br />

2010 Wong raced in the prestigious<br />

and competitive American Le Mans<br />

Series, the IMSA Challenge Series, Series,<br />

the Porsche SuperCup series in<br />

Europe (companion race to the the F1<br />

races) and the NASCAR West. For<br />

<strong>2011</strong> Wong has also confirmed<br />

entries for 2 others series -<br />

the American Le Mans Series<br />

and NASCAR.<br />
