Local trial brings heat to the county of Maycomb
by Jessy L
The long and hard
fought trial of Mayella
Ewell getting raped by
Tom Robinson ended in
finding Robinson guilty.
The whole county and
many from out of the area
gathered at the courthouse
to see the great event
of a white girl against a
black man. The trial took
multiple days to find an
answer to this problem.
Representing Robinson
was Atticus Finch.
He fought long and hard
for proven innocence of
Robinson but the jury disagreed
with what Finch
had to say about the situation.
Finch fought that it
was Bob Ewell who beat
Mayella, and not Robinson.
This was not a good
thing to bring up in front
This following past night the
High School of Maycomb County
had filled the hearts and joy of our
people as the country put on a fair
this past night. The entire county
was there for our fall fair, it was
just full of great food, games and
to top off the night the students had
put on a little show for us.
The night also consisted of fun
things to do other then the show.
Many booths were there for family
Atticus Finch (left) defending Tom Robinson (right)
of Bob Ewell, and of
course it was denied.
Bob Ewell, Mayella’s
father, represented her in
the trial. He had a lot to
say about what had happened,
but Mayella was
very shy and scared about
talking to the judge and
Finch.
Up in the black balcony
held many people
including Finch’s kids
themselves, Jem and
Scout. When Atticus
saw they were there,
The Pagant & Fair are back in town
fun children of all ages could go.
Some of the fun things included
the House of Horrors which was
supposed to be haunted house to
scare the children. “It didn’t even
scare us at all” Cecil Jacobs claims.
Mrs. Merriweather, one of the
teachers at the County school had
helped put the pageant together
for us. In her eyes the pageant was
based on the agricultural heritage
of our County. The pageant was
they were sent home but
arrived later that night
again to see the finial
result.
called “Maycomb County Ad Astra
Per Astra” As the night went on
many of the students had some
crazy costumes like Jean Finch was
dressed up like a ham how funny
that was?
The night was a success and
many people had found themselves
having a great time with many
great laughs.
Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I am a citizen of Maycomb. I
was wondering if you could
answer a couple of questions?
First of all, what happened to
Bob Ewell? Second, When i
saw Bob fighting, why was
there a ham? Last but not least,
Who was the other person in
the fight? Well I also have to
that we will be we . Thank you
for your time and hope you
have a good day. The day went
by as usual and then I saw a
kid in a ham costume going
to the school pagent. I really
Masthead
think that the ham was a little
dry. Meanwhile I saw Jean
Finch escourting someone to
the Radley place when I asked
who it was she calmingly said
“ That man down yander is
Aurther “Boo” Radley”.
citizen of Maycomb
Maycomb Obituaries
by Jess T & Jessy L
Tom Robinson, 25, of
Maycomb County died in the
afternoon at Einfield Prison
Farm. He was shot 17 times
by prison guards while trying
to escape during his exercise
hour.
Being proven guilty in the
trial of Tom and Mayella Ewell
was hard for some to take. Atticus
Finch, Tom’s Defendant,
tried long and hard to fight for
his innocence. Many people
appreciated what he did for
Tom and were so thankful, that
they sent food to his house that
could feed their family for a
very long time. The trial was
fought long and hard but when
it came down to the end he had
to take the punishment.
When Tom turned 19 after
never going to school he proposed
to his wife Helen.
Helen Robinson and their
three children were defiantly
disrupted by the death of their
beloved Tom. After the death
the windowed wife took over
her husband’s job working in
the cotton fields for Mr. Deas.
Continued on page 2
They seemed
to be very interested
in the event,
but Jem seemed
to be the most
concerned of the
come out.
“I want to
grow up to be just
like my dad, and
represent for what
is right” said Jem.
Robinson
was later shoot 17
times and killed.
He was in Prison
and ran for an
escape during his
exercise period.
He was almost
over the fence he
was shot. When
We will always remember
the lost of Tom Robinson is
being a true and good fellow
man.
Local trial brings heat to the county
his family found
out the hard news,
Robinson’s job
of working in the
cotton fields for
Mr. Deas was
gave over to Helen
Robinson, Tom’s
wife.
Atticus was
sent food for
representing Robinson.
“I am very
thankful for the
food our family
has received, but
this act was nothing
to the impact
of receiving all
of this food. I
was just doing a
good deed and
sticking up for a
good cause. Tom
deserved to be innocent
and I tried
my very hardest
to show the jury
that as well” said
Atticus.
Since the trial
is finally over we
are hoping that
Maycomb County
can keep its
problems resolved
without and hard
decision like this
coming into play
again.
