SPHERICAL THRUST BEARINGS
Spherical roller thrust bearings are similar to double row spherical roller bearings, but have a greater contact angle. They are
guided by ground flanges on the inner ring and operate against the spherical raceway in the outer ring. The contact angle is
approximately 45°. Machined cages are normally used, and oil lubrication is recommended.

Application Note: The larger the size of the bore on a spherical thrust bearing, results in a slower bearing RPM rating. On applications such as
deep well pumps, where 1200 RPM and 1800 RPM motors are used in oil lubricated systems, it is recommended to verify the maximum speed
rating of the bearing to be used. Speed ratings vary by bearing manufacturer. Exceeding the maximum speed rating of a bearing will result in
premature failure. Grease lubrication of spherical thrust bearings results in an even greater reduction in speed limits.
