BOARD EXAMS AND/OR LICENSING
You must be licensed to practice dental hygiene in Oregon and any other state. In order to be licensed in Oregon, students must pass
four types of licensing exams. It is required that all graduates take these exams during or upon successful completion of the
program. If you have been convicted of a felony, please be advised that this conviction may prevent you from placement in clinical
training and from obtaining a license to practice within the field. A Dental Hygiene adviser can provide further instruction on this
matter. Students who have been previously dismissed from MHCC’s Dental Hygiene program or any other health related program
may be denied admission into the program.
DEMANDS OF THE PROGRAM
It is important to understand the mental and physical demands of the MHCC program and the career of a Dental Hygienist. This
program is rigorous and requires dedication to be successful. Many students find the coursework to be challenging – going to school
is like a full‐time job! There are faculty, staff and services here to help you be successful.
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT INFORMATION
Federal laws have been designed to prevent discrimination of persons with disabilities. If you have a documented disability and
require any special arrangements or accommodations during your program of study, please contact Disability Services at (503) 491‐
6923 or (503) 491‐7670 (TDD). Attempts will be made to accommodate and retain qualified applicants with disabilities unless results
of evaluations indicate that given reasonable accommodation, an individual will still be unable to perform the essential functions
required by the program. Persons with questions concerning particular qualifications are encouraged to contact the Disability
Services Office to arrange an appointment for individual consultation and advice prior to application.
FINANCIAL AID
All program applicants are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available online
at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This application includes grants, loans, work study and even some scholarships. Information about
financial aid, including instructions for completing the FAFSA, is posted on the MHCC Financial Aid webpage:
www.mhcc.edu/FinancialAid.aspx?id=1179. To avoid missing financial aid deadlines and opportunities, it is recommended that the
FAFSA be completed on January 1 for the following academic year or at the time of program application.
