ABSTRACT<br />
This paper discusses some aspects for the re-starting of agitators in settled bed conditions. As<br />
shown, physical correlations and design rules allow the safe design of agitators for such conditions.<br />
In any case, recommended designs or strategies can only be as good as product data available or<br />
rules of thumb applied, e.g. an assumption for the porosity of the settled solids bed.<br />
