FIRST WORDS
Looking at a photograph of Lewis
Warsh, Bill Corbett, Lee Harwood
and John Wieners in the fairly
recent issue of Mimeo/Mimeo -
taken in 1972 on a winter day at
Walden Pond, I got intrigued.
Wanted to know more. Through
Jim Burns I managed to contact
Lee Harwood and Bill Corbett.
And then Lewis Warsh. There are
little stories, history at every turn.
The kind of history I enjoy and
hopefully you do too. Certainly, if
I pressed them there would be
untold history with them all.
Naturally the aim is to bring you
fresh aspects, but the back stories
exist and wait to be uncovered. So
many crossroads to go to at
midnight, so many connections.
Enjoy this issue. A special edition
next time. More on that in due
course. As ever, tell your friends.
William Burroughs....
Eddie Woods provides a
first hand account of him
in Amsterdam. Burroughs
obviously thought a lot of
Europe, living in London
for prolonged periods, the
Beat Hotel in Paris, his
regular and hugely
popular readings in
Germany, Netherlands -
there is nothing better
than a personal, close up
account. A young
Burroughs here - Woods
encounters him in the last
days. Is this the face of a
sheep killing dog?
