HIGH SCHOOL
PROGRAMS
Equating education with lifelong gains, Junior Achievement’s
High School Programs invest in every student, providing them the
economic skills and assets required to achieve their
personal goals.
JA’s high school programs bring volunteers from the community
face to face with students for the simplest of human interaction–
sharing. Classroom volunteers make economic concepts relevant,
fuel the entrepreneurial spirit, and challenge students to excel.
JA ECONOMICS
This is a semester-length economics course taught
by a certified teacher. Volunteers from the business
community help the students relate economic
concepts and business principles to real-life
situations in the workplace.
JA ENTREPRENEURIAL
A new program that focuses on challenging
students, through interactive classroom activities,
to start their own entrepreneurial venture while
still in high school. It provides useful, practical
content to assist students with the transition
to becoming productive, contributing members
of society.
JA COMPANY PROGRAM
This is Junior Achievement’s original program. This
program allows students in grades 9-12 to set up
and operate a company of their own. Company
members sell stock, elect officers, produce and
market products and liquidate all in 12 weeks. It
can operate during the school day, after school or
in the evening.
JA EXPLORING ECONOMICS
This new program takes a complex subject
and makes it accessible and fun for high school
students through seven hands-on activities. The
volunteer led sessions teach concepts such as
supply and demand and inflation, and also teach
students about the effect which governments and
the individual have on the global economy and on
the price of a loaf of bread.
JA SUCCESS SKILLS
This program focuses on developing students’
interpersonal effectiveness. Through an assessment,
students identify the strengths and unique
potentials of their interpersonal skills.
They participate in mock interviews and work
on a skills portfolio that can be used when
applying for a job. It is presented by a volunteer
over a 7-week period.
JA TITAN
Through a web-based simulation, students learn
how to make pricing, production, marketing,
capital investment and research and development
decisions for their Holo-Generator companies.
This program is designed to show the success or
failure of a company based on how well key issues
are managed.
JA CAREERS WITH A PURPOSE
This program introduces students to the
importance of seeking careers that help them
realize their life potential and noble purpose. It
demonstrates the importance of positive values,
life maxims, and ethical decision-making within
the context of career and life decisions.
JA PERSONAL FINANCE
This program introduces students to the
importance of making wise financial decisions. It
demonstrates the importance of planning, goal
setting, and thoughtful decision-making within
context of personal financial decisions.
