HIGH SCHOOL<br />

PROGRAMS<br />

Equating education with lifelong gains, <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>Achievement</strong>’s<br />

High School Programs invest in every student, providing them the<br />

economic skills and assets required to achieve their<br />

personal goals.<br />

JA’s high school programs bring volunteers from the community<br />

face to face with students for the simplest <strong>of</strong> human interaction–<br />

sharing. Classroom volunteers make economic concepts relevant,<br />

fuel the entrepreneurial spirit, and challenge students to excel.<br />

JA ECONOMICS<br />

This is a semester-length economics course taught<br />

by a certified teacher. Volunteers from the business<br />

community help the students relate economic<br />

concepts and business principles to real-life<br />

situations in the workplace.<br />

JA ENTREPRENEURIAL<br />

A new program that focuses on challenging<br />

students, through interactive classroom activities,<br />

to start their own entrepreneurial venture while<br />

still in high school. It provides useful, practical<br />

content to assist students with the transition<br />

to becoming productive, contributing members<br />

<strong>of</strong> society.<br />

JA COMPANY PROGRAM<br />

This is <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>Achievement</strong>’s original program. This<br />

program allows students in grades 9-12 to set up<br />

and operate a company <strong>of</strong> their own. Company<br />

members sell stock, elect <strong>of</strong>ficers, produce and<br />

market products and liquidate all in 12 weeks. It<br />

can operate during the school day, after school or<br />

in the evening.<br />

JA EXPLORING ECONOMICS<br />

This new program takes a complex subject<br />

and makes it accessible and fun for high school<br />

students through seven hands-on activities. The<br />

volunteer led sessions teach concepts such as<br />

supply and demand and inflation, and also teach<br />

students about the effect which governments and<br />

the individual have on the global economy and on<br />

the price <strong>of</strong> a loaf <strong>of</strong> bread.<br />

JA SUCCESS SKILLS<br />

This program focuses on developing students’<br />

interpersonal effectiveness. Through an assessment,<br />

students identify the strengths and unique<br />

potentials <strong>of</strong> their interpersonal skills.<br />

They participate in mock interviews and work<br />

on a skills portfolio that can be used when<br />

applying for a job. It is presented by a volunteer<br />

over a 7-week period.<br />

JA TITAN<br />

Through a web-based simulation, students learn<br />

how to make pricing, production, marketing,<br />

capital investment and research and development<br />

decisions for their Holo-Generator companies.<br />

This program is designed to show the success or<br />

failure <strong>of</strong> a company based on how well key issues<br />

are managed.<br />

JA CAREERS WITH A PURPOSE<br />

This program introduces students to the<br />

importance <strong>of</strong> seeking careers that help them<br />

realize their life potential and noble purpose. It<br />

demonstrates the importance <strong>of</strong> positive values,<br />

life maxims, and ethical decision-making within<br />

the context <strong>of</strong> career and life decisions.<br />

JA PERSONAL FINANCE<br />

This program introduces students to the<br />

importance <strong>of</strong> making wise financial decisions. It<br />

demonstrates the importance <strong>of</strong> planning, goal<br />

setting, and thoughtful decision-making within<br />

context <strong>of</strong> personal financial decisions.<br />
