DOORWAYS OF HOPE
How Jewish tradition can sustain us
in the land of dementia
Excerpts from the keynote address given by the Jewish Home’s Rabbi Sheldon Marder
at Temple Chai, Phoenix, Ariz., April 26, 2009.
… We need to acknowledge why it is so difficult to talk about faith, hope, and
God in the midst of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is relentless in putting our
religion and our theologies to the test. One writer has even named Alzheimer’s
“the theological disease,” because of the fierce challenges it poses to our
beliefs about what it means to be a human being created by God. >>>
