Garmin Establishes Merit-<br />

Based Scholar Program<br />

A long-time supporter of <strong>EECS</strong>, Garmin<br />

International has created the Garmin Scholar<br />

Program. Scholars will receive $5,000 per year up<br />

to four years of undergraduate study provided<br />

they continue to satisfy scholarship criteria.<br />

Starting in the fall of 2008, the program will<br />

award 15 scholarships.<br />

All students, including international students<br />

<strong>and</strong> current scholarship holders, who meet the<br />

criteria are eligible.<br />

Applicants must be electrical engineering or<br />

computer engineering majors. Current KU<br />

students need a minimum 3.8 cumulative<br />

GPA. Incoming freshmen must have minimum<br />

composite <strong>and</strong> mathematics ACT scores of 30 <strong>and</strong><br />

32, respectively, <strong>and</strong> a high school GPA of at least<br />

3.8.<br />

A leader in global positioning system (GPS)<br />

technology, Garmin has donated GPS receivers<br />

<strong>and</strong> equipment to <strong>EECS</strong>. Garmin also employs<br />

many <strong>EECS</strong> graduates at its world headquarters<br />

in Olathe, Kansas. <br />
