EMPOWERING | ACTIVE LIFESTYLES

FROM THE
EDITOR
This magazine highlights the results of
passion for sports, dedication to quality
and the tireless work it takes to achieve
a dream, and it’s the start of even more
amazing things to come.
When Dr. John Heiss and I came
to Herbalife nearly 5 years ago,
we were asked to complete a very
straightforward task: Create a sports
nutrition line capable of supporting
the best athletes around the world.
Things were different at Herbalife
in 2010. There were a few groups
of Independent Herbalife Members
practicing sports and living an active
lifestyle in spread-out and disparate
countries around the world, but the
concept of a healthy, active life, as we
know it today, did not exist yet. We
had quite a few sports sponsorships,
but many were limited by a simple yet
hindering truth – the Herbalife brand
was on their jerseys, but Herbalife
Nutrition was in far too few stomachs.
From day one, we were driven by our
basic assignment to create sports
nutrition products that would support
the best athletes anywhere. We knew
that if Herbalife developed high-quality
products based on proven science, we
could stand before any athlete, coach,
trainer or agent, look them in the eyes,
and be confident in our products’ ability
to enhance performance. And with
this basic truth satisfied, building an
authentic, emotionally driven brand
to support the products would be all
but inevitable.
What we did not know, and could
not predict, was the symbiotic and
relentless relationship that would be
formed between the Herbalife24®
brand and Herbalife Members. What
started out as a simple “get it done”
task has turned into a brand movement
fueled by passion, positivity and raw
energy that is now flowing all over
the globe. This energy can only be
described in one way: Momentum.
Herbalife24® has been in racecars,
speeding at over 200 mph on the track
in Indianapolis; it has summited some
of the highest peaks in the world; it
has enabled athletes to traverse entire
continents; and it is currently fueling
the greatest footballer on the planet:
Cristiano Ronaldo. Herbalife24® is
here, and now it’s not only on athlete
jerseys around the world – it is in their
bodies, and most importantly, the
quality it stands for is in their minds.
And, the one constant that makes this
momentum possible and the engine
that propels it all is the Herbalife
Members – supporting our athletes and
supporting each other in pursuit of a
performance-driven active lifestyle.
With this passion behind Herbalife24®
products and the brand we all have
built, our momentum is a force to
be reckoned with. Our first issue of
Herbalife24® Momentum is a small
glimpse of this global energy and we
are just getting started, with much
more to come, because there’s far too
much to cover in these pages. So thank
you for helping to propel this brand and
to propel Herbalife as a leader in the
sports nutrition industry.
Let’s keep building that momentum!
Luis Camacho
Heiner Oviedo
Herbalife is the proud sponsor of
the Costa Rica Olympic Team, a
dedicated group of athletes who
have already proven themselves
among the best in the world.
Powered by a combination of raw
talent, hard training and Herbalife
Nutrition, these men and women
are now determined to reach the
top of the podium in Brazil 2016.
Susanne Piedra
Luis Camacho – Mountain Biking
Born in Monteverde, Luis started mountain biking at
age 14. He now has a career that includes a gold medal
in the national games, third place in the 2012 Pan
American Mountain Bike Junior Championships and
fourth place in the 2012 UCI World Cup junior division.
In 2011, he suffered a potentially career-ending injury
when he fell during training and had to drop out of
competition for four months. Never one to surrender
in the face of adversity, Luis fought to recover and
continues training to represent his country in 2016,
and looks forward to a long and fulfilling cycling career.
Gerald Drummond – Track, Hurdles
At 19, Gerald has already proven himself a remarkable
athlete. He won three gold medals at the 2013 Central
American Games, took fifth place in the 2013 Pan
American Juniors and holds the national junior record
in the 400-meter hurdles.
Dirley Yepes
Alia Cardinale
With little support early in his career, Gerald had to
depend on his own determination and the support
of his mother – his biggest fan – to drive him on to
victory. It all paid off when he became the only Costa
Rican to qualify for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics
in Singapore, and he continues to train every day to
become a world champion.
Susanne Piedra – Inline Speed Skating
As luck would have it, during Susanne’s first
competition outside her country something went
wrong and she suffered a fall. What could have been
an early end to her career, instead motivated her to
train harder and become the 2012 Central American
Champion, the national champion for five consecutive
years and finally to reach the No. 12 position in the
world rankings.
14 / MOMENTUM

For Susanne, sport is a way to improve both her health and her
character, and to continue learning throughout a lifetime. A huge
fan of Usain Bolt, she trains hard so that in 2016,
her name can join his in the record books.
Heiner Oviedo – Taekwando
Thanks to the unfailing encouragement and support of his father,
Heiner earned a spot in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
He’s battled his way to the No. 9 spot in the world rankings (-58
kilograms) and is striving to become No. 1. In 2014, he won a
silver medal in the Santo Domingo Open and bronze medals in
the Canada Open, Bolivia Open and the Pan American Olympic
Festival.
Aside from dominating the sport, Heiner’s future goals include
sharing his knowledge with the youth of Costa Rican by becoming
the coach of the National Taekwondo Team. “I want to motivate
children to achieve greater things than I have achieved,” he says.
Dirley Yepes – Fencing
A pioneer of fencing in Costa Rica, Dirley has been a national
champion since 2007 and has renewed the title six times (2007–
2009, 2011–2013). She won the gold medal in individual epee at
the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and was also
the senior women’s champion at the 2012 War of the Roses Epee
Tournament.
Naturally competitive, Dirley began fencing because she likes
challenges. And although she’s had to overcome uncertainties
in the little-known sport, today, she studies architecture at her
university and trains daily, hoping to reach the podium in Rio
de Janeiro.
“I want to motivate
children to achieve
greater things than
I have achieved.”
Heiner Oviedo
Alia Cardinale – Triathlon
Alia took on the challenge of her first national triathlon when she
was just 12 years old. She had big dreams from a young age, and
that first success gave her the courage to keep going. She continued
her training with the guidance of French coach Claude Meyer, who
sent her workout plans by email. Eventually, Alia moved to France for
two years, during which time she competed in the French triathlon
circuit, one of the best in the world.
These days, Alia is racking up the victories, including first place
in the elite women category at the 2014 CRC Triathlon National
Championships, first place in the 2013 Central American Games,
first place in the 2012 Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile, and
second place in the Pan American Cup in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica.
Currently, Alia is preparing for her biggest challenge yet: Brazil 2016.
David Jimenez – Boxing
Nicknamed “Medallita,” or “Little Medal,” David is a born fighter
dedicated to his family and to boxing. Growing up, he worked in a
cemetery and in construction, with all the money going to his family.
And despite not having the funds for sporting equipment, he would
diligently show up to practice in torn shoes.
These days, David has more than earned his nickname, ranked 4th in
the world (46–49 kilograms) by the International Boxing Association.
He made history as the first Costa Rican to win a medal at an
amateur boxing championship with his bronze at the 2013 AIBA
World Amateur Boxing Championships. He won a gold medal
at the 2011 Pan American Games and a bronze medal
at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean
Games. And as 2016 approaches,
David continues to fight his
way to the top.
HERBALIFE GLOBAL SPONSORSHIPS
You may know Herbalife as a company
that has produced game-changing
sports nutrition products, but there’s
more to the story. Herbalife is so
passionate about helping people
reach peak athletic performance that
it sponsors more than 250 athletes,
teams and competitive events
around the world. Cristiano Ronaldo,
international soccer superstar featured
on the cover of this magazine, is one
of them. Each of these sponsorships
is built upon a mutual desire and
commitment to pursue excellence in
sports, fitness and overall nutrition.
Herbalife sponsorships span a wide
range of individual and team sports:
from cycling to football to cricket and
everything in between! Here, you’ll learn
more about a few professional teams
that have chosen Herbalife as their
Official Nutrition Sponsor. Herbalife
provides these teams with products
to aid in performance and recovery,
and the teams provide Herbalife with
deeper insight into their players’ unique
nutritional needs. In this way, the
partnerships are “win-win”!
FC SPARTAK MOSCOW
(SOCCER)
RUSSIA
Founded in 1922, Spartak is named after Spartacus, the legendary gladiator slave who led
a rebellion against the Roman Empire. The team has always played with a ferocity befitting
a warrior and, today, it remains one of the most successful teams in the country’s history.
To help supplement their nutritional needs and support recovery, this nine-time Russian
championship team turns to Herbalife.
“Our daily workouts and trainings, our everyday work, now seems inconceivable without
Herbalife ® products,” explains Mickahil Varapetov, coaching staff rep. “We use Formula 1
Nutritional Shake Mix as ultimate nutrition. It’s a great source of protein. That is so
essential for the football players, as well as for everyone who does hard and active
muscular work.”
The players also enjoy the convenience of Formula 1 Express Bars.
“There are times when they don’t have time to eat,” adds Varapetov, “because of
circumstances related to flights, moving or changes in the competition’s schedule.
Instead of heading for some fast-food options, we have Formula 1 Express Bar.”
VIETNAMESE OLYMPIC
TEAM (VARIOUS SPORTS)
VIETNAM
Herbalife is proud to sponsor 18
Vietnamese athletes in sports that
include Vovinam (Vietnamese martial art),
judo, gymnastics and golf. The Vietnam
National Vovinam Team competed in the
South-East Asian Games (SEA Games) in
2011, with much success, bringing home
a total of five gold, seven silver and two
bronze medals. The team was also named
the Number 1 Team competing in the SEA
Games. Herbalife also proudly sponsors
Vietnam’s number one-ranked professional
golfer, Tran Le Duy Nhat, who won the PGA
Singha Classic Tournament in Thailand.
These sponsorships provide a golden
opportunity to showcase Herbalife’s
commitment to a healthy, active life
supported by good nutrition.
The Man Behind the Sports Legend
ou can see it in his eyes. The grit, the passion and the razor-sharp focus.
When international soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo steps onto the field,
the game becomes far more than just a game. It’s the next challenge in his
never-ending pursuit to become a better athlete. Then there’s his pure physical talent
– the strength, the speed and the agility. While Ronaldo may have been genetically
blessed with physical greatness, his skills have also been honed after years of
steadfast training and nutrition. Together, Ronaldo’s powerful blend of mind and
muscle, easily makes him one of the best athletes to ever play the game.
His many awards and honors are a testament to this fact. Most recently, Ronaldo
captured the 2014 FIFA* Ballon d’Or title, an award given by FIFA * to the best male
player of the year. Based on votes from national coaches, captains and international
journalists, the FIFA* Ballon d’Or is a highly coveted prize – and this was Ronaldo’s third
time winning it. He’s also received the ESPY Best International Athlete Award (2014),
the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award (2013–2014), the UEFA Champions League Top
Scorer Award (2013–2014) and a slew of other highly acclaimed accolades.
But there’s more to Ronaldo than meets the eye; more than the games he’s won, more
than the records he’s broken and more than the awards that line his resume. He is a
man of multiple dimensions, and this is his story.
“ I’M DEDICATED TO IMPROVING MYSELF ALL THE TIME , 100 PERCENT. ”
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, known to the world as Cristiano Ronaldo or “CR7” because
of his jersey number, was born on February 5, 1985, in Madeira, Portugal. At an early age, he
remembers playing soccer in the streets of his working-class neighborhood. He felt an
immediate connection with the ball – one that other kids his age didn’t seem to have.
He first realized he had talent when his friends marveled at his soccer tricks and
asked him to demonstrate them over and over again. Still, at this young age,
Ronaldo had no idea how far his passion for soccer would take him.
“I didn’t think that one day I would be a professional and play, for example,
for Manchester United or Real Madrid,” he explains. “I just played
for the enjoyment of it.”
Seeing his zest and skill for soccer, Ronaldo’s father invited him to play at the
local amateur soccer club where he worked as a kit man. Young Ronaldo was
just 8 years old. “I went there every day to train, and I liked being part of
a team,” remembers Ronaldo. “My father was there to help me, and this is what
I remember from when I was a kid.”
DRIVEN TO SUCCEED
Throughout the years, Ronaldo has pushed himself in situations where other
athletes may have thrown in the towel. “I’m dedicated to improving myself all the time,
100 percent,” says Ronaldo. “It’s born with me. You can have talent and the potential to be
a great player, but you have to work at it. I’m focused on my training and on my game,
and I dedicate myself all the time. That’s what I continue to do because I think it’s very
important for my career. It’s how I keep seeing results and how I get better at my game.”
At the heart of Ronaldo’s dedication is a genuine love for the sport. “I’m passionate about my work.
It’s what I love to do,” Ronaldo expresses. “I don’t do it because I have to do it or because somebody
pushed me. I do it because I love it and feel passionate about it. If you do things naturally, with
passion, they will be much easier.” Around the world, millions of fans catch a glimpse of this passion
when they tune in to watch Ronaldo play. They also feel more connected to him through social media.
In October 2014, Ronaldo became the first sportsperson (and the second person after Shakira) to
reach 100 million followers on Facebook. 1 According to Forbes.com, he has also had the fifth highest
social media ranking in the world. 2 When asked how he feels about the love and respect his fans
have for him, Ronaldo is extremely grateful.
“This is good. It has given me motivation to work more and be better for both the present and future,
because I know that wherever I am in the world, I have a lot of fans. They always support me in the good
moments and in the bad moments, so I don’t want to disappoint them. This is why I always try to play well.
“I TRY TO SCORE GOALS FOR MY CLUB AND FOR THE
NATIONAL TEAM BECAUSE I KNOW THEY ALWAYS
SUPPORT ME. I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THEM .”
Ronaldo shares that even when attacked by critics, he doesn’t let it get the best of him.
In fact, it just fuels him to do better. “This has given me extra power,” he admits. “Especially
when I play away games, when the crowds boo me. This has given me extra motivation
because I want to show them that they are wrong and that this is what I’m born to do.”
FOCUSED ON PHYSICAL FITNESS
While Ronaldo partly credits his genetics for his success, he’s also quick to stress the importance
of his training and exercise. “Genetics are very important,” he says, “but if you work on your
genetics you will become better. Being in good shape is so important. It’s a weapon for me,
because I think it’s something that gives me an advantage over other players.”
When it comes to training duration, Ronaldo firmly believes that quality trumps quantity. “My
training hours are normal. I think I do the same training as my teammates. But I believe the
difference is if you do it 100 percent, it doesn’t matter how long you’re training. You can’t train
for 10 hours and give 100 percent the entire 10 hours. If you are training one or two hours with
100 percent focus, that’s enough in my opinion.”
In the years ahead, Ronaldo is committed to maintaining and even building his strong,
muscular physique. “It’s going to take dedication and hard work but, for the future, I will try
to maintain the same level of fitness. I know difficult moments and small injuries are coming
with age, and I’m going to push myself until my body gives me the answers I want. This is
why I’m enjoying the present; I don’t think a lot about the future, because I know the future
will be good too. I just enjoy the moment. I feel good. My body is good. I may be living the best
moments of my career so far, and I want them to continue.”
HEALTHY NUTRITION
Any serious athlete knows that proper nutrition is absolutely vital to strength and performance.
Today, Ronaldo has this piece of the puzzle nailed. But he remembers a time, as a skinny young boy,
when sports nutrition was a mystery to him.
“I remember when I was 11 years old and people would say, ‘You have fantastic talent, but you’re
small and skinny. You have to eat,’” says Ronaldo. So I started to eat two plates. My teammates and
I would go to the supermarket to buy yogurts, and we would drink them to gain weight because we
were so light.”
Even during his mid-teens, Ronaldo still remembers being a ‘”toothpick.” As he explains, “I was very,
very skinny. But I had something – a bit of definition. I just wasn’t strong enough yet. So I started
to go to the gym with my friends, and after two or three years, I started to have a little bit of
muscle. Everyone started to change their opinion about me.”
“HERBALIFE ® PRODUCTS ARE FANTASTIC,
Today, Ronaldo starts his day with a good breakfast and fuels his body with a balance of quality
proteins, healthy carbohydrates and ‘good’ fats throughout the day. “I think good nutrition is important
anytime, but especially after training or a game for muscle recovery,” says Ronaldo. “I cannot live
without it. It’s very important for me, and for other top athletes or people training at any level.”
As strict as he is about his diet, Ronaldo isn’t afraid to “cheat” every once in a while. “I try to eat well
all the time, to have good supplementation and to drink well. But if there’s a day or two where
I’ll go out and treat myself to something like cake, I don’t have a problem with this,” he says. “I also
have good genetics. But some people don’t have good genetics and they drink lots and don’t sleep
well. This happens in every sport, not just soccer. For these athletes, it will really affect their
future. They’re going to be awfully tired and they’re going to have more injuries. That’s why I’m
always careful about these things.”
A PARTNER IN HERBALIFE
About five years ago, Ronaldo became aware of Herbalife for the first time. He was immediately
drawn to the products because of their quality. Today, Herbalife is proud to be Ronaldo’s Global
Nutrition Partner. Together, they have also been collaborating on a new Herbalife ® isotonic hydration
drink, which will launch in 2015.
“Herbalife ® products are fantastic, and they’ve helped me a lot,” says Ronaldo. “I think there are
many good products on the market, but Herbalife is my personal favorite. I believe in them because
they support my training regimen, and I’m honored to be part of the Herbalife family.” Post-workout
or following a game is when Ronaldo most appreciates using Herbalife ® products. As he recounts,
“I notice that I feel better when I take Herbalife. If your body isn’t given the right nutrition, it won’t
perform how you want it to.”
Just as importantly, using Herbalife ® products gives Ronaldo peace of mind when it comes to drug
testing. He is confident knowing that Herbalife ® products are completely safe, healthy and clean.
“DOPING IS SOMETHING I’M ALWAYS
AFRAID OF — ALWAYS. ”
“It’s the worst thing that can happen to an athlete,” says Ronaldo
in reference to doping. “For example, if I go to a restaurant or a
bar and someone puts something in a drink, I’m petrified of that
because it would be the end of my career. Your whole reputation
would be shot. Everyone would say ‘He’s always in good shape
because he takes drugs.’ But this will never happen to me
because I’m doing the proper things, especially in this case with
Herbalife.”
FROM THE FIELD TO FATHERHOOD
On the field, Ronaldo’s heart and soul might be focused on the
game, but off the field his proudest accomplishment is his son –
Cristiano Ronaldo, Jr.
“Being a father is fantastic,” he explains enthusiastically. “It’s
kind of a dream for me still. To wake up in the morning, to put my
kid in school and to realize that he loves me is fantastic. I love it.
This experience. I feel very, very happy.”
“The best advice that I’m going to give him is to value education,”
says Ronaldo. He knows that I am his dad, and that he has my
name. There will be a little bit of pressure for him, so this is why
my focus is to give him a very good education. I think the most
important things for him will be respect and a good education.”
As a father, Ronaldo also finds himself more in tune to the
needs of needy children. For this reason, he also works with
Save the Children, an international organization that promotes
children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children in
developing countries.
“Children are the most important thing in the world,” he says. “If
you can help them, you make the world better. This is what I try
to do, especially now.”
THE ROAD AHEAD
What do the next few seasons have in store for Ronaldo?
Where will he be in 10 years? Will he still be as fit
and agile on the field as he is today?
“I don’t know,” Ronaldo admits. “I hope I perform very similar
to now. I will work on it. I hope to be in good shape when I’m
38, 39 and beyond. And I will always be a 100-percent athlete.”
THE MAKING OF HERBALIFE24 ®
JOHN HEISS REVEALS HIS
VISION FOR HERBALIFE24 TM
JOHN HEISS
DIRECTOR OF SPORTS AND FITNESS, WORLDWIDE PRODUCT MARKETING, HERBALIFE
Intense focus, attention to detail and the willingness to put in the hard work – these are the traits
that define great athletes, and not surprisingly, they are the same traits that John Heiss, Director
of Sports and Fitness, Worldwide Product Marketing at Herbalife, and his team used to create
Herbalife24®, a customizable sports nutrition line to help athletes train, perform and recover like
never before.
With a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles,* and a lifelong love of
sports that includes cross country running, competitive downhill skiing and competitive cycling,
Heiss has firsthand experience about the kind of nutrition that athletes need to perform at their
best. And he wasn’t seeing other products meet those needs while also providing the trust that
comes from quality ingredients, diligent testing and proven results.
SURPASSING INDUSTRY STANDARDS
By the time Heiss became part of Herbalife, he had already been ruminating for years about
nutrition products that would be ideal for athletes. So now that he had access to state-ofthe-art
facilities and brilliant technical scientists, he and his team set out to develop a line of
comprehensive sports nutrition products that would surpass industry standards. The result was
the launch of Herbalife24® in 2011.
“We spent about nine months of just planning and research at Herbalife to develop the line,” Heiss
says. Because of the company’s many sports sponsorships, Heiss and his team had access to
feedback from top athletes throughout the world. “We spent a lot of time traveling internationally,
meeting with a lot of our teams and athletes,” he says, mentioning soccer clubs like FC Barcelona
from Spain, FC Spartak from Russia and Maccabi Haifa from Israel.
More recently, they’ve collaborated with international soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on a
new isotonic drink. “Ronaldo felt he didn’t have great nutrition for a really hard practice session
MOMENTUM / 29

“It’s good enough for
pro athletes, but it’s
also for somebody
who’s working out
on weekends, who
considers themselves
an athlete just for that
moment in time.”
or things to drink during a match,” Heiss says. “So we
got his input to make what we think is an ideal isotonic
drink that someone can use during exercise.” The new
drink, which will be cobranded with Ronaldo, is in final
development stages and will be available in 2015.
All the fieldwork proved invaluable to help them
discover what products the teams and athletes were
already using and what gaps were not being met in
their nutrition.
PAINSTAKING DETAILS OF QUALITY
Along with the copious feedback, Heiss and his team
carefully examined a broad spectrum of existing
research on nutrition and ingredients to really hone
in on the formulation for Herbalife24® products. “We
read about the latest research and findings from the
top universities and even the private sector as the
basis for coming up with ingredients,” Heiss confirms.
“We looked at all the research in order to find the right
amounts, the right ratios, the right proteins and things
of that nature to really build up these products.”
Of course, they also looked at the marketplace to
see what consumers were looking for, although their
aim wasn’t to copy existing products. They didn’t
30 / MOMENTUM

“I always look at
the label and look
at ingredients.”
just take the same ingredients you’d find
in a GNC protein shake, mix them up in a
canister and put an Herbalife24® label on
it. “There is so much more that goes into a
product than that,” Heiss says. “It’s all the
painstaking details of quality that lead up to
an Herbalife24® product.”
They could’ve just used the same run-ofthe-mill
whey protein concentrate that other
brands use, but instead Heiss and his team
focused on blends of proteins that, based
on their research, would provide the best
results for athletes. “We used whey protein
isolate, which is a more pure form of whey
protein,” he says. “We used casein protein,
which is a slowly digested form. That’s
what I think the point of real distinction is,
the quality of ingredients, the ratios, the
amounts, all those kinds of things.”
PRODUCTS EMBRACED BY ATHLETES
It’s important to remember that
professional athletes have too much to
risk by using any product that they don’t
trust 100 percent. Reputations and careers
can be devastated by a product that
inadvertently triggers a blood or doping
test. For this reason, it was vital that every
Herbalife24® product sold in the United
States be NSF Certified for Sport®*. This
means athletes can rest assured that every
single lot of product is tested for nearly 200
known banned substances. (See NSF Facts
on page 41.)
As a result, Herbalife-sponsored athletes
have embraced the products, counting
on them to improve their training and
performance. This is a great source of pride
for Heiss and his team. Imagine something
you made helping to give Cristiano Ronaldo
the drive to score a game-winning goal – or
just picture champion triathlete Heather
Jackson fueling up with your drink as she
sets another course record.
“It’s definitely a cool feeling,” chuckles
Heiss, who gets even more excited when
he sees non-sponsored athletes using the
products. “I remember seeing a video [of
athletes are just using the products
because they like them and they
THE BEAUTY OF THE PRODUCTS:
THEY JUST WORK
While Herbalife24® was created to
meet the nutritional needs of pro
athletes, the line was also designed
to help anybody who is athletic and
health conscious. “It’s good enough
for pro athletes,” Heiss says,
“but it’s also for somebody who’s
working out just on the weekends,
who considers themselves an
athlete for that moment in time.”
Whether it’s someone training for
an amateur triathlon, or a weekend
warrior who likes to go mountain
biking with friends, they can benefit
from Herbalife24® just as much as
the pros do. “Professional athletes,
they’ve got all day to train, and they
eat whenever they want,” Heiss
says, “but Herbalife24® products
can also help someone who goes to
the gym in the morning before work
to maximize that one hour of gains.”
For Heiss, in the end it all comes
down to trust – trust in the
quality and safety of Herbalife24®
products, and in the fact that they
will do what he designed them to
do. “I always look at the label and
look at ingredients,” he says of any
product he uses. “Some people
maybe don’t read the ingredients;
they just want a product that works.
That’s the beauty of Herbalife24®
products: They just work.”
FROM
THE
FIELD
with Chris Klein
Chris Klein is a former American soccer player who spent
thirteen seasons in Major League Soccer and earned
twenty three caps with the United States men’s national
soccer team. He is president of the LA Galaxy.
In 2014, the LA Galaxy made history,
becoming the first Major League Soccer
team to win five MLS Cup trophies – First
to Five! It was a pivotal victory for the team,
a victory that we share with everyone
who helped to make it possible: trainers,
coaches, support staff, family and fans, and
of course, Herbalife, the Galaxy’s Official
Nutrition Partner and Presenting Sponsor
through the 2022 MLS season.
I’ve experienced soccer from all sides, as a fan,
as a professional player and as president of the
LA Galaxy. In that time, I’ve come to realize that
success is not a one-man show; success comes
from surrounding yourself with the best people,
both on and off the field. And in that respect,
I am proud to say that Herbalife has been an
amazing partner to the
LA Galaxy.
MLS
teams and
players are finally
getting the recognition they
deserve across North America and
the world, and a big part of that is thanks to
the success of the Galaxy. But that wasn’t always
the case, we had to start from the bottom and work our way
up. Now, we have a record five MLS Cups, Bruce Arena is the
most successful coach in MLS postseason history and Landon
Donovan capped his career as the most accomplished player
in MLS history. From early on, Herbalife believed in the global
appeal of soccer – they believed in the Galaxy – and I can’t tell
you how gratifying that kind of support feels.
As any pro athlete will tell you, training is only half
the equation to achieving victory; you also need the
best nutrition to compete at a world-class level. Safe,
effective, high-quality nutrition – that’s what I
want for our players, and thanks to our
partnership with Herbalife, I’m
confident that’s exactly
what they are
getting.
These days, the Galaxy players have
access to Herbalife24® sports nutrition
products, specifically designed to meet
their advanced needs. With products like
The LA Galaxy players and coaching staff have access to the
the top-quality nutrition that our players need. I also worked
with Herbalife to develop the Sports Science department, which
combines sports medicine and sports science, nutrition, and
strength and conditioning. We brought on Alex Savva to be
the Manager of Sports Science, ensuring that our players
perform at their best by implementing nutrition
training. Gyasi Zardes’ first goal of the game
and Robbie Keane’s game-winning goal
at the 2014 MLS championship are
perfect examples of world-class
athletes playing at the top of
their game with the help of
world-class nutrition.
Nutrition is just one aspect of the support we
get from Herbalife. For example, we asked for
a new sink in our old lounge, and they went
above and beyond with a new state-of-the-art
Herbalife Players’ Lounge. We’re talking about
a full kitchen, shake station, three TVs and a
touch-screen smart board to help us analyze
our games. It’s like a sense of family, because
Herbalife cares about this team, about our
nutrition and about the environment for the
players. Bottom line, they want a happy team
because happy teams play better –
that’s how you win
BEHIND THE SCENES WITH
RICH GOUDIS
RICH GOUDIS | Chief Operating Officer, Herbalife
For Rich Goudis, Chief Operating
Officer at Herbalife, no two days on the
job are identical. At any given point, Rich
has his hand in a number of different
initiatives: from identifying new raw
materials and farmers to partner with
to sourcing new ingredient suppliers
and manufacturers to overseeing
Herbalife research and development,
manufacturing, warehousing,
distribution and logistic processes.
His job may sound complicated, but
there’s a simple driving force behind
everything he does: quality.
“I want people who hear the name
“Herbalife24 ® ” to think that those
products perform as advertised and
to know that there are no banned
substances in them,” says Goudis. “These
products will help them perform, whether
it’s during a workout, a sport or on the
recovery side.”
Goudis can confidently attest to the
safety of Herbalife24 ® products, as
they have NSF Certified for Sport ®
accreditation to back them up. NSF
International is the National Sanitary
Foundation, and it certifies sports
nutrition products as being free of
athletic-banned substances as
defined by the World Anti-Doping
Agency (WADA). In order to qualify for
this certification, a detailed screening
process carefully puts the product,
manufacturing facility and label claims to
the test. Today, all Herbalife24 ® products
sold in the United States are NSF
Certified for Sport ® .
“The number one thing that Herbalife24 ®
products offer athletes and sports teams
is confidence,” elaborates Goudis. “And
under that, there are unique formulations,
complete ingredient traceability and
testing for banned substances. Before
we release products to athletes, every
single lot – every single time it’s made
– is tested for nearly 200 identified
banned substances.”
Why should all this matter?
As Goudis explains, “Professional
athletes today, and even some elite
amateurs, have too much at risk –
whether it’s financial or their reputation
– to take a chance on putting something
in their body that may inadvertently trip a
blood or urine test.”
His best advice to everyday consumers,
athletes and coaches looking for a new
sports nutrition brand is this:
“First, select a brand that you know and
trust. Strong brands have too much to
lose by sacrificing on quality and safety.
Second, check the claims on the label.
Do they seem too good to be true? Then
they probably are. So avoid products
that promise drastic performance
results, or that position themselves like a
pharmaceutical or drug. And third, choose
products that have been tested for
athletic banned substances.”
Goudis, who used to wrestle, play
football and run track, now considers
himself more of an endurance athlete.
As a cyclist, he participates in Herbalife
triathlons to represent the Herbalife
brand and motivate other employees and
Independent Herbalife Members. He’s
also an avid sports spectator.
“As far as heritage, I grew up in New
York, so I’m a New York Giants fan,” says
Goudis. “My son plays football for the
University of Miami, so I’m a Hurricanes
fan, too. And I’m also a Mets fan. I’m just
a Long Island guy who loves sports!”
QUESTIONS
with
MICHAEL
FRANKOS
SPORTS
SCIENCE
SPECIALIST
at HERBALIFE
Can you provide an
overview of what you and
your team are responsible
for at Herbalife?
Our primary responsibility is product
development and innovation of sports
products, so we do a lot of research about
competitive products and ingredient
research. We’re constantly looking for new
and effective ingredients to put into new
products. We also concentrate on product
and nutrition education. We do a lot of
article writing and presentation pieces
that explain why we pick the ingredients
we do, when the best time is to use our
products and the main benefits of taking
them. It’s our job to educate Independent
Herbalife Members so they can pass
this knowledge onto the consumer.
What is your background
in sports and nutrition?
I’ve always been involved in athletics.
When I was younger, my main sports
were lacrosse, wrestling and football.
My passion is football – I love football.
In college, I really wanted to get into the
science and nutrition aspects of sports
performance, so I got my degree in biology
and finished my master’s degree in
biochemistry. Now, I impart this knowledge
when studying how nutrients work in
the body, and how supplements can help
with sports performance and fitness.
How important is the
connection between
nutrition and sports
performance?
They’re definitely interconnected. Nutrition
serves as the fuel for your body. When
you’re participating in sports, you’re
really trying to push your body to the
limits to perform at its highest level.
In order to do that, you need to ensure
your nutritional requirements are met.
How have recent
advancements
in technology
affected the sports
performance arena?
You can look at it in two ways: From
an ingredient standpoint, purification
techniques have advanced quite a bit.
Today you get much purer ingredients –
and different combinations of ingredients
– than you would’ve gotten 15 or 20
years ago. Safety and screening have
improved, too. Before they weren’t able
to detect a lot of things that we’re able
to detect now, such as heavy metals and
adulterants in herbal blends. There’s also
the sports science standpoint – being
able to test athletes and look at what’s
going on in their cells. We’ve really made
advancements to evaluate how effective it
is to supplement with different nutrients.
NSF®
FACTS
BANNED SUBSTANCE TESTING
In 2010, 35 World Anti-Doping
Agency (WADA) accredited
laboratories detected
4,818 findings of confirmed
and suspected prohibited
substances. 1
1,265
resulted in national
anti-doping rule
violations. 2
What is NSF ® [National
Sanitation Foundation]
and how does it impact
Herbalife24 ® products?
NSF is an independent organization that
looks at all food industry products to make
sure they’re safe. For Herbalife, NSF takes
a three-pronged approach. It evaluates our
manufacturing plants to make sure they’re
clean and safe and that everything is done
“...to make sure there aren't any
anabolics or banned stimulants
in our products.”
by the books. They also look at our label
claims to make sure that all levels that we
put on our labels are correct. For example,
if we say there are 24 grams of protein in a
product, NSF will check that there actually
are. And finally, they look for banned
substances. They do independent testing
– aside from our own testing – to make
sure there aren’t any anabolics or banned
stimulants in our products. So the Herbalife
athlete can be confident knowing that
what they’re taking is safe and healthy,
and that they’re not going to fail their
drug tests.
What kind of feedback
does your team get
from athletes about
Herbalife ® products?
We’re getting really great feedback.
People are really enjoying Herbalife24 ®
products in particular. Especially with
social media, we see more and more
athletes who aren’t even sponsored by
Herbalife, who are using the products.
Our sponsored athletes really love
the products, too. They appreciate
the quality and science behind
them and the results they get.
Tips to Max Out
Your Workouts
If you’re reading this magazine
you’re probably already passionate
about sports, fitness and anything
adrenaline-related. But whatever
your current fitness level – and
whatever your sport – you can
get the most out of your training
with these eight simple steps.
Give them a try and experience
the results for yourself!
SAMANTHA CLAYTON
Director of Worldwide Fitness Education, Herbalife
1
WARM UP
While your instinct might be to immediately
dive into your workout, spending just five to
10 minutes warming up will better prepare
your body for exercise. You’ll want to warm
up at a pace that gradually gets your heart
beating at 50 to 60 percent of your maximum
heart rate. (Note: The basic way to calculate
your maximum heart rate is to subtract
your age from 220. For example, if you’re
35 years old, your maximum heart rate
would be 220 - 35 = 185. For vigorous
exercise intensity, you’ll want to be at 70
to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate.)
And don’t forget to stretch! It warms your
muscles and prepares them for exercise.
Warm muscles also allow for a greater range
of motion for your joints and make injuries
less likely. Along with physically preparing
your body for exercise, your
Repeat with the left leg.
warm up can provide a great space to
mentally prepare for what’s ahead. If your
goal is to shut out all outside thoughts,
get into the zone and focus on reaching
new limits, this is the time to do it!
But don’t stop there. By frequently
stretching throughout your workout,
you’ll promote better circulation – and by
increasing blood flow to your muscles,
waste products like lactic acid will be
removed to help prevent soreness.
Each stretch should last approximately
20 to 30 seconds and should have
you feeling a mild discomfort but not
outright pain. Remember to leave time
at the end of your workout to wrap up
with some final stretches. Trust me.
The next day, you’ll be glad you did!
2
ADD VARIETY
Even the most driven, passionate athletes
can reach plateau (both physical and
mental) if they aren’t changing things
up every once in a while. Don’t be afraid
to split your routine in new ways, try
different exercises and drills, or move
your training from indoors to outdoors.
Any of these changes will help send a
message to your body that it can’t just
“coast” along. Adding variety to your
routine is especially important if you’ve
been doing the same thing for weeks or
even months on end.
3
REST AND
RECOVER
Taking a step back from training probably
goes against every fiber of your being. But
if you’re not resting, how can you grow?
During intense training, our muscles
are essentially “broken down.” The only
way for them to recover is to be fed
proper nutrition and to have some rest.
During this recovery period, our bodies
grow bigger and stronger so that our
muscles can be broken down again. So
don’t be afraid take off a day or two each
week, or even a week off every two to
three months. You’ll likely come back
stronger, more rejuvenated and with more
enthusiasm than ever before. Following
a break is also the perfect time to modify
your training program (see previous
section) and start on a fresh footing.
4
DRINK UP
As you may already know, proper
hydration is crucial to your results –
especially after a serious workout.
It’s critical that you replenish lost
fluid during this time so your body
can continue to function at its highest
level. You’ll also need to ensure you’re
hydrated before and during your
workout. Every time you hit the gym,
go for a run or step onto the field, you
should have a water bottle in hand.
Then continue to support your system
by hydrating throughout the day. You
can also benefit from hydration in
the form of Herbalife24® Hydrate*.
This low-calorie advanced hydration
supplement can be taken anytime
during the day — mornings, during
workouts or even at night to maintain
body fluid levels.
5
GET SPECIFIC
It goes without saying that we all want
to be better athletes. But having the
goal of “being a better athlete” is too
generic and won’t give you the structure
you need to reach your objectives. You
need a clearer vision, because the more
detail you include in your plan, the
better your chances of success will be.
When outlining your goals, follow the
“SMART” formula by choosing goals that
are Specific, Measurable, Achievable,
Results-Focused, and Time-Bound.
Along the same lines of recording your
goals, it’s just as important to track
your workout progress throughout your
journey. This could mean recording
specific exercises, weights, reps,
distances, etc., that you’ve reached each
time you’ve laced up. Your training log
will be a blueprint to your successes
or failures through trial and error, and
will give you a better sense of where
you can make modifications to enhance
performance. Think of it as part of your
overall game plan to success!
6
FIND A BUDDY
Do you ever have those days when your
laces are tied, your workout clothes are
on, but your heart’s just not into it? It
can be oh-so-tempting to just shrug off
your workout and hop on the couch, but
what if one missed workout turns into
another, and another and – well, you
get the picture! Here’s where a workout
buddy can really help. On days when your
motivation is hovering below its usual
level, your workout buddy can act as your
“accountability partner” and give you the
push you need to get back in the game.
He or she will also be there to celebrate
successes with you, and vice versa. If you
don’t already have a workout buddy, let
the search begin now!
7
CHALLENGE
YOURSELF
Despite having the occasional “off” day,
you probably have it in your DNA to always
46 / MOMENTUM

DID YOU KNOW?
When you write down your goals, you are more
likely to achieve them. In a study conducted on the
1979 Harvard MBA program, graduate students
were asked, “Have you set clear, written goals for
your future and made plans to accomplish them?”
The result: Only 3% had written goals and plans,
13% had goals but they weren’t in writing and 84%
had no goals at all. Fast-forward 10 years and the
results were incredible. The 13% of graduates who
had goals, but did not write them down were earning
twice the amount of the 84% who had no goals.
The 3% who had written goals were earning, on
average, 10 times as much as the other 97% of the
class combined!
keep on going. That’s what being a serious
athlete is all about. But are you always
challenging yourself? Are you always
doing more than you think you can do?
Here’s some easy advice: When you’re
in the gym and feel like you can’t do any
more reps, crank out just two or three
more. When you’re running and feel like
you’ve hit the wall, take just a few extra
strides. It’s not about making huge leaps
every time, because you don’t want to
compromise technique or risk injury. It’s
about taking small steps that will lead to
consistent gains. If you don’t try to add
weight at every workout or go further on
every run, your body won’t have anything
to adapt to. So keep it guessing and keep
on growing!
8
NOURISH FOR
SUCCESS
So you’re doing all the physical work
– now comes the healthy nutrition to
complement it. Throughout your day,
you should be consuming a mix of lean
proteins, low-glycemic carbohydrates
and healthy fats (and don’t forget to add
a multivitamin to the mix). Protein is
especially important for athletes of all
levels, as it helps to build and repair
muscle tissues following intense training.
When you want a break from preparing
whole-food meals, you can use
Herbalife24® Formula 1 Sport to get
your vital macronutrients in. It’s a quick,
healthy meal that can be prepared
sports performance, also check out
A quick-start plan for beginners
Week 1 Start Slow, Build a Base
Trust the training over the WHOLE five weeks and be patient.
Start your training by building an aerobic base – allow time
for your body to adapt.
Week 2 Strengthening Your Foundation

Runs will begin to increase in length, though intensity is
kept very moderate.
For participants starting with run-walks, walk times will begin
to decrease and runs will increase.
Week 3 Interval Training: Body and Mind

Interval training helps train the mind to deal with higher intensity effort.
Now is the time to run hard when prescribed, and rest when prescribed.
Week 4 Training for Peak Week

Intervals in Week 4 will help train the threshold effort you can sustain
for a period of at least 10 minutes.
As training intensity increases, overall training volume will reduce.
It’s important to decrease volume to ensure the program’s most difficult, and
arguably most important, sessions are completed with high-quality effort.
Week 5 Congratulations and Good Luck!

Week 5 is not the time to “squeeze in” training.
A few, very short and hard but controlled efforts
will help fine tune your body for racing.
Growing up in Exeter, New Hampshire, her family embraced athletics and physical activity
and helped to make sports a part of Heather’s molecular makeup. Her mom was a physical
education teacher for 30 years and insisted on signing up her three kids for multiple sports.
Jackson laughs, “They had us in soccer, hockey, gymnastics, softball, lacrosse – every sport!”
No shrinking violet, Heather roughed it up with the boys, playing ice hockey, from age 6 until
high school. In college, she joined the Princeton University Division 1 women’s ice hockey
team. After graduation, she took a traditional career path, teaching English and world history
for a couple years. But still, she yearned for something more. “I think I was definitely meant
to do something athletic,” Jackson says. “It just seems to come naturally.”
In 2007, while teaching English in Thailand, Heather ran Ironman ® Malaysia as an amateur and
discovered her love for triathlons. Then in 2008, she won the Ironman ® World Championships
in Kona, Hawaii, in the 18–24 amateur age group. The next step was to go pro in 2009, but
it wasn’t an easy decision to leave behind the safety and stability of her life as a teacher to
follow her dream of becoming a professional triathlete.
MOMENTUM / 53

“I never thought I would ever be doing this,”
Jackson says of her life as pro athlete. “I grew up in
New England, I played ice hockey and I assumed I was
either going to be a teacher at a high school or teach
somewhere and be a hockey or a soccer coach.”
Her fiancé, Sean “Wattie” Watkins, is an ex-cyclist and her
biggest supporter, attending all her events. He helped Jackson
take the leap of faith and believe in her dream of going pro, by
reassuring her that she could always go back to teaching if her
triathlon career didn’t pan out. “I seriously had maybe $3,000
in the bank,” Jackson recalls about her early pro days. “When
you’re faced with ‘You need to make money or you’re going to
have to go back to teaching,’ you make it happen [laughs].”
And make it happen, she did, with a string of top finishes
over the last few years in several Ironman ® 70.3 Triathlons
(also known as Half Ironman ® competitions). She set a
new course record at the California Wildflower Long Course
Triathlon, one of the biggest triathlon events in the world. In
fact, Jackson has taken first place three times at the grueling
Wildflower – in ’12, ’13 and ’14 – and it remains her favorite
course because it was her first overall professional win.
So far, Jackson’s young career has focused on Half
Ironman ® courses, but she’s getting ready to take on the
“big race,” the Ironman ® World Championships in Kona,
Hawaii. She’s had her sights set on Kona since winning in
her amateur age group back in ’08. “When I got into it right
out of college, that was the only race I knew,” she says.
“So it’s always been the goal – I want to win Kona.”
Though she’s always been athletic, since going pro
Heather’s had to buckle down and take her training to the
next level with the help of her coach, Cliff English. “It all
comes down to your relationship with your coach,” she
says. “He keeps progressing you, he knows where you are,
and each time you’re trying to get a little bit better.”
Jackson’s training schedule is both tough and consistent. “Each
day has a specific focus,” she says. “Each day, there’s usually a
key set to hit. The big thing with triathlons is just day in and day
out consistency.” Mondays she swims. Tuesdays and Thursdays
are hard swims, followed by either a hard ride or a hard run
and then she takes it easy on the last session. Wednesdays
are for longer rides. And then she finishes with an easy Friday
and Sunday. “Easy” being a relative term for a triathlete.
“It’s tough because even if you’re not training, it’s still part of your
training,” Jackson chuckles. “There’s stuff you’re doing even if it’s
not a swim, bike or run.” This can include stretching, core work,
ice baths, the occasional massage and, of course, what she eats.
“Yeah, it’s so huge,” she says of her nutrition during competition.
“It’s as important as any of the three sports. You’re out there
riding 112 miles, and you have to get off and run 26 miles, so you
can’t just ride and forget about that and not be fueling.” And it can
affect her training as well. “If you haven’t eaten enough before,
if you’re dehydrated, there goes the quality of your session.”
To make sure she’s in top form during training and
competitions, Jackson relies on Herbalife24® Hydrate. “I
definitely use Hydrate, all day, every day,” she says. “I’m just
drinking that constantly for the electrolytes.” She would
also mix one scoop of Herbalife24® Prolong with Hydrate
for an additional kick of calories and electrolytes. And as
an Herbalife-sponsored athlete, she also has early access
to the latest products in development by the company.
Even with her natural gifts and top-notch nutrition and
training, there are times when Jackson hits the wall, when
she falls short. It’s easy to see someone shine when they
are at their best, but it’s during the tough times that you
get a clear view of her character and positive personality.
If you haven’t eaten enough before,
if you’re dehydrated, there goes the
quality of your session.
54 / MOMENTUM

“You can have a bad day, you can totally bonk or mess
up your nutrition or not drink enough,” she admits. “All
of a sudden you’re just not hitting your numbers, or
running a minute slower per mile than normal, which
is massive. All of a sudden, it’s like this load that’s
starting to add up on you, and you’re permanently
tired and hungry and everything just seems negative.”
This is when Jackson relies on a personal reserve
of inner strength to keep going, to keep pushing
herself, no matter what. She recalls the words of
her triathlon coach, Cliff English: “It’s about the
effort. You just keep putting in the effort.” Then
she thinks back to her ice hockey days, and what a
different coach used to tell her. “My hockey coach
used to say, ‘You’re a fighter,’” she laughs. “Not a
fighter, literally, but like when it comes to race day,
there’s no excuses, it’s all out, and I’m there to win
the race. Yeah, I just want to be known as a racer, a
fighter. The gun goes off and you win it, or it wasn’t
your day, but you gave everything on that day.”
As for that cheerful personality, Jackson says
it all boils down to gratitude. “I know that I am
pretty fortunate in this world,” she says. “I don’t
take it for granted at all. I have a really good friend
who is a perfectly healthy 35-year-old woman,
and she just came down with brain cancer, out
of the blue. It’s so crazy; she just thought she
had headaches. You just never know, so it’s just
being grateful each day for what you do have.”
THE MAKING
OF A PERFECT
PARTNERSHIP
Brian McKinley Reveals
How Herbalife Teams Up
With Athletes
In March 2012, sports history was made when
the LA Galaxy and Herbalife announced a record
10-year extension of their existing partnership,
solidifying the role of Herbalife as the Official
Nutrition Company and Presenting Sponsor of the
LA Galaxy. Valued at US$44 million, the extension
was set to run through the 2022 MLS season,
making it the largest and longest sponsorship
agreement for an MLS club in League history.
Behind the scenes of this landmark extension was
Brian McKinley, Vice President of Sports Marketing
and Products at Herbalife. Today, a large part of
64 / MOMENTUM

“Our relationship goes
far beyond just the
jersey. It’s about the
true integration of our
brand, and we wanted
a stable partnership.”
Brian’s job entails leading the
robust Herbalife sponsorship
program, which supports over
250 professional athletes,
teams and events around the
world.
“Everything we do is about
finding the right relationships,”
says McKinley. “Our goal at
Herbalife is to always sponsor
athletes who share our
commitment to excellence,
health and an active life.
If an athlete or team doesn’t
have the same passionate,
positive attitude that we do,
it’s not a good fit. We want to
create authentic relationships
that we and our Members will
feel proud about.”
While McKinley and his team
actively research and scout new
sponsorship opportunities, they
also have athletes regularly
coming to them.
“Herbalife® products are being
used all around the world, so
many athletes are familiar
with their quality and come
to us seeking sponsorship,”
explains McKinley. Again, if it’s
the right fit, we’re happy to
discuss a partnership. These
relationships are mutually
beneficial. Our sponsored
athletes get the benefit of
receiving Herbalife® products
to support their performance,
and we get regular, real-world
insight into what athletes need
and want when it comes to
sports nutrition. This goes a
long way in helping us develop
relevant, effective products.”
While every sponsorship
contract differs, McKinley’s
focus is always on creating a
sense of stability. This was
especially true of the 10-year
LA Galaxy extension in 2012.
“It’s hard to maintain a
partnership philosophy when
every one-and-a-half to three
years you are negotiating a
renewal,” McKinley explains.
“Our relationship goes far
beyond just the jersey. It’s
about the true integration of
our brand, and we wanted a
stable partnership. We are
committed to the Galaxy, we’re
committed to the MLS and
we’re committed to soccer. Not
just in the United States, but all
around the world.”
Although Herbalife is heavily
invested in soccer, sponsoring
the LA Galaxy, soccer legend
Cristiano Ronaldo and a host of
other international soccer clubs
and players, it also represents
a variety of other sports –
everything from basketball to
triathlons to motorsports.
“In my opinion, every athlete
can benefit from proper
nutrition, no matter what his
or her sport,” says McKinley.
“The right nutrition can mean
the difference between a
good performance and a truly
great performance, especially
if there’s little rest time
between games or events.
That’s why our sponsorship
roster is so diverse and
why we represent so many
different disciplines. Athletes
all across the board need
nutrition that helps speed
up recovery and enhance
performance.”
As Herbalife24® products
continue to build momentum
– and as more and more
athletes become inspired by
the stories and testimonials
of other Herbalife athletes –
McKinley foresees a growth
in his sponsorship program.
“I believe the sponsorship
aspect of Herbalife will
always be a large and
important one,” states
McKinley. “It provides us with
a great platform to connect
with athletes and build
awareness of our products.
In my mind, the more people
we can educate about proper
sports nutrition, the better!”
