Awards Received by Faculty and Staff
1. Three EE faculty members have recently
received major PI awards at the 2009 PI Annual
Commencement celebration:
• Dr. Balanthi Abdul Rahiman Beig received
the 2009 Teaching Award for Junior Faculty,
• Dr. Lana El Chaar received the 2009 Service
Award for an Outstanding Faculty Member,
• Dr. Lisa Lamont received the 2009 Award for
Excellence in Academic Advising.
2. Dr. Majid Poshtan, Assistant Professor and
Mr. Mohamed Ghazi, a PI-EE graduate, received
the 2009 ADCO Paper Award for “An Intelligent
Distributed Autonomous Electric Energy System for
the UAE”.
3. Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, Chair of the Electrical
Engineering Department was awarded the
“Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award” by
the President of the IEEE/PES “For leadership
and excellence in power engineering research,
outstanding contributions to power and energy
education, and dedicated service to the Engineering
profession.”
4. Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib was also awarded a
Certificate of Appreciation from the President
of the IEEE/PES issued by the IEEE Power
and Energy Society, Energy Development and
Power Generation Committee in recognition
of his distinguished service to the Energy
Development and Power Generation Committee
and for co-organizing and chairing a panel session
on ‘International Practices in Demand-Side
Management: Practices and Barriers’ in July 2009.
5. Mr. Leslie Dias received an award for his
valuable contributions to the Department.
6. Eng. Mohammad Al Ani received an award for
his valuable contributions to lab development.
7. Eng. Mohammad Serhan received an award
for his contributions to the 4th IEEE student
competitions.
