Speaker Biographies Harris Allen, Ph.D. Harris Allen Group Founder & Principal Dr. Allen leads the Harris Allen Group, founded in 1997 to focus on performance and strategy development in health care. Clients have ranged from employers, health plans, on-site clinics, pharmaceutical and specialty firms to state agencies. He has held posts at The Rand Corporation, Aetna, New England Medical Center and Coopers & Lybrand. He has also served in lecturer or scholar capacities at Yale, Thomas Jefferson, Brown and Tufts Universities. He has published and presented widely. Tyler Amell, Ph.D. StaffRelay Chief Executive Officer Dr. Tyler Amell is a well-known and respected management consultant specializing in evidence-informed workplace health. One of Dr. Amell’s specialty areas is human capital solutions, particularly the subject of workplace health and productivity. Currently, Dr. Amell serves as Chief Executive Officer of StaffRelay, a company focused on helping organizations maximize the potential of their workforce through strategic absence and disability management. Dr. Amell has significant experience in, and has conducted extensive university research on topics such as: work-related musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses, return to work, disability management, and mental health in the workplace. Dr. Amell has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, as well as book chapters. He has also given seminars and presentations at over 75 national and international conferences in areas of his expertise. He is a former instructor at the Universities of Calgary, Alberta, Ottawa and Queen’s University in physical therapy, anatomy, kinesiology, and occupational health. Dr. Amell currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health (CARWH), and has worked extensively with the Institute for Work and Health (IWH). He is passionate about optimizing technology to improve integrated workplace health and benefit support systems and processes. Francisca Azocar, Ph.D. Optum Vice President, Research and Evaluation Behavioral Health Sciences Dr. Azocar is Vice President of Research and Evaluation of Behavioral Health Sciences at Optum. Dr. Azocar has been at Optum for 15 years, and she specializes in creating research partnerships between academia, employers and health plans. She has conducted research on the dissemination of practice guidelines for the treatment of depression within managed behavioral healthcare, particularly on workplace depression, telephonic care management and outreach to depressed chronically-ill medical patients, development of patient-reported outcome measures and impact of provider feedback reports, development of evidence-based psychotherapy measures, and impact of clinical interventions on service utilization and costs. In collaboration with academic partners, Dr. Azocar has been involved in several National Institute of Health-funded studies including studies on depression in the workplace, autism spectrum disorders, and the impact of the Mental Health and Addiction Equity act on access, utilization and costs. Prior to joining Optum Dr. Azocar was a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. There her research and clinical work focused on the treatment of depression in disadvantaged general medicine and ob/gyn patients, particularly with Spanish-speaking young women. Dr. Azocar received her doctorate from UC Berkeley and a National Institute of Mental Health Clinical Services Research Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the UCSF. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California. Waleed Bahouth Humana Director, Associate Health and Well-being Waleed Bahouth is a Director of Associate Health and Well-being at Humana in Louisville, Kentucky. His team conducts health analytics and manages primary clinics for Humana’s 55,000 employees. Waleed has a J.D. from University of Louisville and a B.S. in Economics from Trinity University.
