This session will share expert perspectives regarding the role that private exchanges may play in supporting workforce health management efforts. Each of the panelists has a unique perspective, and together will provide an insightful look at the role of private exchanges. This session will present findings from the 2015 Guardian Absence Management Activity Index℠ and Study, a Spring Consulting Group commissioned survey, as well as an accompanying metric developed in 2012 to monitor changes in employer engagement and absence management-related activities. By providing insight into the current absence management landscape, this presentation will explain the series of steps employers of all sizes can take to get started on their absence management journey and build an effective, long-standing program over time. Workshop B: Using Consumer Activation to Better Understand Consumer Behavior and Outcomes • Craig Kurtzweil, Senior Vice President, Analytic Innovations, UnitedHealth Group Recognizing the impact consumer behavior has on health care and related costs, Unum and UnitedHealth Group took aim at consumer health activation with their Consumer Activation Index (CAI), a tool used for measuring decision making and short-term disability exposure. In a study of 17 customers with 270k members, the CAI was used to determine if individuals make an optimal clinical, financial or service choice when faced with a health care decision. The CAI navigates individuals through 51 decision points to complete its assessment. By better understanding consumer behavior, members can then seek to modify behavior to achieve better health. The discussion will highlight how CAI works and its results in relation to short term disability and productivity. Workshop C: Breaking Through: Communicating for Engagement and Behavior Change • Janice Burnham, CEO, ROC Group • Gary Grabarczyk, VP, Corporate Associate Benefits, Robert Bosch In this session, a leading employer will discuss how they are using targeted communication techniques and campaigns to drive engagement with corporate leadership as well as employees and their families. Participants will share how they’ve helped leadership embrace the impact of workforce health on productivity as well as provide insights about why employee and family engagement in health and benefits programs is integral for success. This session will focus on utilizing communications to influence the subcultures of a corporate enterprise, leveraging transparency in health initiatives, motivating an inactive deskbound workforce, and positioning workforce health to financial leadership.
