Intestate Estate of Abel Clark:
To James Ridington, Surrogate of the County of St. Lawrence,
The petition[er] Lydia Clark respectfully shows that she is a resident of the town of Potsdam in the
County of St. Lawrence. That Abel Clark departed this life on the 12th day of March 1857 dying a
natural death. that he died in the town of Maple Grove in the Stae of Wisconsin. That he was on a
visit to that state at the time. That at the time he was a resident of the town of Potsdam in the County
of St. Lawrence. That he left the following named heirs and next of kin. That your petitioner his widow
residing in Potsdam aforesaid, Samuel S. Clark, Polly Ann Smith wife of Orlando Smith, Ira Clark,
Isaiah Clark residing in the State of Wisconsin, and Spencer S. Clark residing in the town of Potsdam
besides there [sic] sons and daughters, there are the following named grandchildren George,
Philinda, Mary, Franklin Clark Children of Nickloss Clark Deceased, Charles S. Bailey, Erstine E.
Bailey, Florian Bailey, children of Betsey M Bailey a deceased daughter, Julia Cunningham, daughter
of Rhoda Ann Cunningham a deceased daughter that the above named are all of full age excepting
the grandchildren. That the said deceased left no last will and testament. That he left personal
property that will not probably exceed in amount the sum of eight hundred dollars and your petitioner
prays that she may receive letters of administration upon the estate of the said deceased and that her
son Spencer S. Clark and Lyman Dayton of the town of Potsdam may be appointed [?] with her in
such letters.
