Intestate Estate <strong>of</strong> Abel Clark:<br />

To James Ridington, Surrogate <strong>of</strong> the County <strong>of</strong> St. Lawrence,<br />

The petition[er] Lydia Clark respectfully shows that she is a resident <strong>of</strong> the town <strong>of</strong> Potsdam in the<br />

County <strong>of</strong> St. Lawrence. That Abel Clark departed this life on the 12th day <strong>of</strong> March 1857 dying a<br />

natural death. that he died in the town <strong>of</strong> Maple Grove in the Stae <strong>of</strong> Wisconsin. That he was on a<br />

visit to that state at the time. That at the time he was a resident <strong>of</strong> the town <strong>of</strong> Potsdam in the County<br />

<strong>of</strong> St. Lawrence. That he left the following named heirs and next <strong>of</strong> kin. That your petitioner his widow<br />

residing in Potsdam aforesaid, Samuel S. Clark, Polly Ann Smith wife <strong>of</strong> Orlando Smith, Ira Clark,<br />

Isaiah Clark residing in the State <strong>of</strong> Wisconsin, and Spencer S. Clark residing in the town <strong>of</strong> Potsdam<br />

besides there [sic] sons and daughters, there are the following named grandchildren George,<br />

Philinda, Mary, Franklin Clark Children <strong>of</strong> Nickloss Clark Deceased, Charles S. Bailey, Erstine E.<br />

Bailey, Florian Bailey, children <strong>of</strong> Betsey M Bailey a deceased daughter, Julia Cunningham, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rhoda Ann Cunningham a deceased daughter that the above named are all <strong>of</strong> full age excepting<br />

the grandchildren. That the said deceased left no last will and testament. That he left personal<br />

property that will not probably exceed in amount the sum <strong>of</strong> eight hundred dollars and your petitioner<br />

prays that she may receive letters <strong>of</strong> administration upon the estate <strong>of</strong> the said deceased and that her<br />

son Spencer S. Clark and Lyman Dayton <strong>of</strong> the town <strong>of</strong> Potsdam may be appointed [?] with her in<br />

such letters.<br />
