dome’s handwriting. These shells correspond<br />

closely with the type description. We<br />

have designated a neotype with the express<br />

purpose of clarifying the taxonomic status of<br />

C. kolamulliense (see the original description<br />

by Blanford and Blanford, 1861).<br />

Other material: 1 of the 16 remaining<br />

shells from the above lot is also illustrated<br />

(reg. no. NHMUK 1906.01.01.2221/2, Fig.<br />

12E).<br />

The NHM type collection contains 2 shells,<br />

which were wrongly considered to be the<br />

types of C. kolamulliense. This lot is labelled<br />

"Kolamalai Hills, S. India" and "Sispara",<br />

"Coll. W.T. Blanford", "114.06. 4.4" (reg. no.<br />

NHMUK 1906.04.04.114). These shells are<br />

minute and different in shape and sculpture<br />

from the type description of C.<br />

kolamulliense. The NHM register indicates<br />

that 2 shells from the "Kolamalai Hills" were<br />

registered under the number 1906.04.04.114.<br />

However, the original specimens may have<br />

been replaced by the shells of another species<br />

subsequent to their being registered, or the<br />

specimen data may have been entered<br />

wrongly by Godwin-Austen, who registered<br />

the original lot.<br />

Cyathopoma (Cyathopoma) latilabre -<br />

Distribution: endemic to the <strong>Western</strong><br />

<strong>Ghats</strong>. Known from the central <strong>Western</strong><br />

<strong>Ghats</strong>: from the <strong>Ghats</strong> of "South Canara"<br />

and from "Wynaad".<br />

Original locality: "South-Canara ghats", at<br />

an elevation of 2000-3000 feet.<br />

Type material: 3 syntypes, "S. Canara", "coll.<br />

Col. R. Beddome", "900.12.iv.16", NHM (reg.<br />

no. NHMUK 1912.04.16.900, "5" specimens<br />

registered), one of which is here designated as<br />

the lectotype (reg. no. NHMUK 1912.04.<br />

16.900/1, Fig. 12F). One of the paralectotypes<br />

(reg. no. NHMUK 1912.04.16.900/2, Fig.<br />

13A) is also illustrated.<br />

Distribution: endemic to the <strong>Western</strong><br />

<strong>Ghats</strong>. Known from Pykara in the Nilgiri<br />

Hills, central <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Ghats</strong>.<br />

Original locality: near Pykara, Nilgiri Hills,<br />

at an elevation of 7000 feet. Found beneath<br />

rocks and stones on damp ground at forest<br />

edges.<br />

Type material: 4 syntypes (labelled "authentic")<br />

from "Pykara, Nilgiris, S. India",<br />

"H.F. Blanford colln., Acc. no: 1944", NHM<br />

(reg. no. NHMUK 20110226), one of which<br />

is here designated as the lectotype (reg. no.<br />

NHMUK 20110226/1, Fig. 13B).<br />
