■ ■ As your community foundation, we identify needs and opportunities in Brookline. Grants Awarded in 2005 BCF awarded a total of $254,500 in grants in 2005, including $131,053 in Discretionary Funds, $24,859 from the Brookline Youth Fund, $9,700 in grants from the Environmental Stewardship Fund, $16,925 in grants for the Brookline 300 celebration (in addition to $26,000 awarded in 2004), $7,500 in grants from the Fund for Arts and Culture and other gifts designated for the arts, $38,370 in rent subsidies, and $26,093 in Emergency Assistance Grants to individuals and families. The following grants are made from Brookline Community Foundation Discretionary Funds: Health And Human Services Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers for volunteer programs to provide medical transportation and friendly visits to frail and isolated Brookline elders. $5,000 Rogerson Communities for a weekly music therapist as part of the arts programming in the Adult Day Health Program at the Brookline Senior Center. $5,000 Kids’ Clothes Club to purchase winter coats for low income Brookline teenagers, and support for operating costs. $1,500 Brookline Recreation Department start up funding for Fit for Life, a weeklong, town wide fitness advocacy program. $1,940 Baker School Extended Day to purchase and install equipment, and to train instructors for an Adventure Education program, a collaboration between Extended Day and the Physical Education Department to promote mental and physical fitness in students in kindergarten through 8th grade. $14,906 HEARTH for support services for formerly homeless elders living at the Ruth Cowin House in Brookline. $7,500 Brookline Council on Aging Year 3 of a 3-year matching grant for senior van transportation services for the elderly. $5,000 Community and Organizational Development Brookline Emergency Food Pantry for a sustainability campaign to build support for the Food Pantry. $7,500 Steps to Success for an outside evaluator to assess intermediate outcomes for the college readiness program for low-income youth. $15,000
