COM487 Topics in Drama and Theater<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course explores ideas of form, convention,<br />
style, and context in drama and theater. It<br />
focuses on the different dramaturgical and<br />
theatrical approaches to specified topics,<br />
theater trends, or schools (Modern Drama,<br />
Postmodernism, Documentary Drama, Gender<br />
and Theater, Popular Theater…). This course<br />
may be repeated if topics differ.<br />
COM488 Topics in Radio/TV/Film [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course covers the theoretical aspects of<br />
selected topics in Radio/TV/Film. The course<br />
may be repeated, and taken more than once, if<br />
the topics differ. Any additional registration to<br />
the core is to be considered as an elective.<br />
Prerequisite: COM326 Script Writing. Senior<br />
Standing, or the consent of the Instructor.<br />
COM485 Topics in Current Affairs [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course will provide students with the<br />
opportunity to become more mature consumers<br />
of current affairs topics, and critical thinkers<br />
of the print, internet, and broadcast media.<br />
With a more thorough review of the current,<br />
local, and international events, students will<br />
develop their story selection, investigative,<br />
interviewing, and analytical, reporting skills.<br />
They will be expected to keep abreast of the<br />
latest breaking news stories, covering a wide<br />
spectrum of fields such as political, economic,<br />
human interest, music, and the visual arts.<br />
Prerequisite: COM210 Communication Media<br />
& Society. Senior Standing, or the consent of<br />
the instructor.<br />
COM486 Topics in Media Studies [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course presents diverse theoretical, and<br />
methodological, perspectives on selected<br />
topics relevant to the field of media studies.<br />
The course may offer an in-depth analysis of<br />
the relevant topics (e.g. ethnic and gender<br />
representation, identity politics, minority<br />
issues, etc...) related to one medium, or explore<br />
one relevant issue across several media.<br />
This class may be repeated if topics differ.<br />
Prerequisite: COM210 Communication Media<br />
& Society. Senior Standing, or the consent of<br />
the instructor.<br />
COM499 Internship [1-0, 1 cr.]<br />
The Internship course covers professional<br />
communication work, in an off-campus<br />
setting, appropriate to the student’s emphasis<br />
program, providing experience not available in<br />
the curriculum. Students may work for print or<br />
broadcast (Radio/TV) media, as well as in the<br />
theater or in film.<br />
Prerequisite: Senior Standing.<br />
MUSIC<br />
MUS201 Fundamentals of Music [0-3, 3 cr.]<br />
This course covers the basic principles of note<br />
values, clef-reading rhythms, scales, writing on<br />
the music staff, sight-singing, and dictation. It<br />
entails a practical experience through playing<br />
of the recorder.<br />
MUS202 Chorale [0-3, 1 cr.]<br />
This course is an experience in singing the<br />
sacred and secular music of all the Periods.<br />
It entails three rehearsals per week, and<br />
public performances, on and off-campus.<br />
Up to three credits may be earned, in three<br />
separate semesters. Admission to this course<br />
is by audition. This course is offered every<br />
semester.<br />
MUS301 Music Education [3-1, 3 cr.]<br />
This course covers the development of the<br />
basic skills required for teaching music at the<br />
elementary school, including singing, moving to<br />
rhythm, hearing tonal relations, understanding<br />
notation, and using accompanying<br />
instruments.<br />
MUS311 Survey of Western Music [0-3, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a survey of the development of<br />
Western music from ancient times, through the<br />
Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, to<br />
the 20th Century, and contemporary forms of<br />
musical expression. CDs and tapes illustrate<br />
the forms, styles, and characteristics of the<br />
Periods and composers. Emphasis on the<br />
place and the influence of music as a part of<br />
general culture are covered.<br />
MUS312 Survey of Middle Eastern Music<br />
[0-3, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a survey of the historical sources,<br />
and the development of the underlying<br />
principles, forms, modes, and rhythms, of<br />
Middle Eastern music. CDs and tapes, and,<br />
whenever possible, live vocal or instrumental<br />
performances, illustrate important styles,<br />
modes, and instrumentation. Music is studied<br />
in the context of the general Middle Eastern<br />
culture.<br />
