BA IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A<br />

FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TEFL)<br />

Mission<br />

Under the umbrella of <strong>LAU</strong>’s Vision, the Mission<br />

of the BA in TEFL is to prepare professional<br />

teachers who are <strong>academic</strong>ally well grounded<br />

in both their subject matter, and pedagogy, and<br />

to enable experienced educators to update their<br />

knowledge and skills.<br />

Learning Outcome<br />

Students will be able to:<br />

1. Identify and explain the different<br />

subcategories related to language, namely<br />

morphology, syntax, semantics, and<br />

pragmatics.<br />

2. Distinguish the different methods and<br />

approaches to teaching English and<br />

understand their impact on the curriculum<br />

3. Plan units, lessons, curricular materials,<br />

and activities for teaching English<br />

4. Select and implement appropriate<br />

strategies for teaching the English<br />

language<br />

5. Organize learning environments and<br />

implement theories of behavioral<br />

management to create positive classroom<br />

atmosphere.<br />

6. Plan strategies and prepare tools for<br />

assessing language students’ achievement<br />

(formal as well as informal assessment)<br />

7. Describe and distinguish the major<br />

grammatical functions related to language<br />

8. Analyze language and its social context<br />

and explain the linguistic differences<br />

encountered within a society.<br />

9. Identify and summarize different reading<br />

approaches and strategies related to the<br />

English language<br />

10.Explain and critique different topics<br />

related to English language<br />
