SPECIAL MEMO TO THE FLOWER CITY JAZZ SOCIETY
FROM:
TO:
RE:
Ted Howes
The Flower City Jazz Society
The Tri-City Jazz Band, Monday, November 17, 2008, 6:30-9:30PM at the
Green Lantern Inn
The Tri-City Jazz Band was put together by yours truly, after a suggestion from
Dick Lacey that I put together a band of musician friends that have not performed
together on a regular basis. I thought it was a great idea, and the Tri-City Jazz Band was
soon formed. Here’s the lineup:
Ted Howes, cornet–Buffalo area; Bill Bates, drums–Buffalo area; Floyd Hughes,
trombone–Rochester area; Peter Ferran, clarinet–Rochester area, Milo Tomanovich,
piano–Rochester area; Phil Flanigan, bass–Syracuse area; Hannah Richardson, vocals-
Syracuse area.
The Rochester musicians are the largest contingency in the band, but it’s your jazz
society we’re performing for, so you get the numerical preference. At least, that’s my
best excuse. I’m sure most of your concert audience is well aware of the talents and
capabilities of these musicians. They are very accomplished and I’m sure the band will
be cooking on all burners.
My thanks again to Dick Lacey for his suggestion, and thanks to the musicians who
are joining me to perform for the Flower City Jazz Society. I know the band will enjoy
playing together and we will do our best to make sure the audience also has a wonderful
evening. So-“COME ON DOWN” to the Green Lantern Inn, and let’s have some fun.
All the best – Ted Howes

REVISED DINNER RESERVATION FORM
Please note, we have revised the dinner reservation form. There has been some confusion lately
in filling out the form. We hope the new form will be easier to follow.
HISTORICAL NOTES
In 1992 at the fifth concert, when the club started charging an admission free (to pay the bands),
the fee was $2.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. In January 1993, that was increased to
$5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. In almost 16 years since then, the only change that
has been made was this year to increase the fee for non-members to $10.00.
CONCERT ENTRANCE FEES
Recently, there have been some questions regarding our concert entrance fees. Just to be sure
that everyone understands our monthly fee schedule, we would like to offer the following:
We have 10 sit down dinners per year and 2 buffets (August & December).
At each sit down dinner, the entrance fee is $5.00 for members and $10.00 for guests. There are
no exceptions. Several members have dropped out and have been coming to the concerts with their
spouse (or significant other) and have expected to pay the members entrance fee. Please do not expect
to pay the member fee if your spouse (or significant other) is not on our membership roster – they must
pay the guest fee. Of course they can join at the concert and we waive the entrance fee for new
members for that night.
At each buffet, the entrance fee is waived for members, as this is our way of saying thank you for
your membership and love of Dixieland music. Guests must pay an entrance fee of $5.00. The same
rules apply as above. Guests will always pay $5.00 more than members!
Our entrance fees help pay for the band that evening. The amount of money that we collect for
dues each year is not enough to pay for the bands as well as mailing costs, office costs, income tax
preparation, insurance fees and ASCAP dues. We ask for your cooperation in this matter.
