with the Dixieland <strong>Jazz</strong> of<br />
THE BOURBON STREET PARADE!<br />
<strong>The</strong> Bourbon Street Parade is based in Rochester. <strong>The</strong>y specialize in Dixieland, as<br />
well as traditional jazz standards, show tunes and blues.<br />
<strong>The</strong> band members include [A] an architect, [B] an attorney, [C] a former New<br />
York <strong>City</strong> jazzman, [D] a professor emeritus, [E] a former deputy sheriff, and [F] a<br />
speechwriter. Can you match them up? Since they are from here, you probably know<br />
them. If not, have some fun and ask! [See the next page for match-ups.]<br />
1. George Baker on trumpet once jammed with Teddy Wilson. He was a popular player<br />
in Cleveland before moving to Rochester. He was once offered a regular gig after<br />
sitting-in at a Rio de Janeiro club.<br />
2. John Beck is the drummer.<br />
3. Al Bruno on the bass played for many years with the great pianist, Teddy Wilson. He<br />
also played with other headliners such as Coleman Hawkins, Gene Krupa and Charlie<br />
Parker.<br />
4. Dave Pierce on the trombone is a co-founder of the Bourbon Street Parade Band. He<br />
recently moved to Syracuse and is playing with bands there.<br />
5. George Pierce, on clarinet and saxophone, played with Air force Band and the<br />
Claude Thornhill Band. He currently plays with Dixieland bands in the area<br />
including Bourbon Street <strong>Jazz</strong>.<br />
6. Pianist Milo Tomanovich has played Dixieland for more than 25 years. He’s played<br />
with many bands in our area.<br />
