VOLUME IX NUMBER 4 ROCHESTER, NEW YORK APRIL 2008
As leader of the band, Floyd Hughes brings his skills as a former music educator to each
performance as he plays his trombone or tenor banjo and sings. He played in the U.S. Army and Jazz
Band while stationed at Fort Jackson, taught instrumental music in Indiana and New York schools; and
played with the big bands of Duke Spinner, Chick Edmonds, and Bud DeTar after his move to
Rochester. For nine years, he played weekly at the New Dutch Mill with Billy Spitz and The Dixieland
Stompers. Currently he also plays regularly with both Jon Seiger and George Pierce.
Playing with Floyd will be the following great local musicians:
Trumpet and keyboard artist, Jon Seiger, is widely known for his outstanding “Louis Armstrong”
vocals. His New York City experience gave him the opportunity to play with well-known musicians such
as Ella Fitzgerald, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Eckstein, and Joe Williams. He is leader of Jon Seiger and
the All-Stars, which have been featured in jazz festivals in Jamaica, Spain, Canada, Florida, Ohio,
Pennsylvania and Upstate New York.
George Pierce, on sax and clarinet, is a former member of the Army Air Force Band. He also
played with bandleader Claude Thornhill. He has been a member of the Penfield Rotary Band for over
35 years and leads his own group, the Bourbon Street Jazz.
Lynn Eberhardt, on bass and vocals, is another former Rochester area music educator. A
graduate of the Eastman School, he played four years in the U.S. Coast Guard Band. His skills are in
great demand for performances not only with Rochester and Buffalo bands but also as the bass for pit
orchestras in area musicals.
Henryk Stefanski is a musician originally from Warsaw, Poland. He sings, plays banjo, and
electric and acoustic guitar. With his groups in Poland, he recorded 30 jazz and Dixieland LP’s,
including the only Gold Record in Poland, and performed in almost every country in Eastern and
Western Europe. He continues to play regularly both in the U.S. and in Europe at international jazz
festivals.
From the time drummer Bob Livingston began playing professionally at age 15, he established a
reputation for excellence. He worked in New York City for over 20 years at well known jazz clubs such
as Condons, Nick’s, and Birdland. Since his return to Rochester, he has consistently been in demand,
much appreciated by fellow band members for his ability to keep a steady beat and by audiences for his
brilliant drum solos.
