Season long fertilisation from one application
Fairway fertilisation is an expensive operation, both in terms of material cost
and labour.
Multigreen 425 month fertilisers provide cost-effective fairway fertilising in a
single application, lasting a whole season,
Both Multigreen 28-0-0 and 28-3-15 are formulated to release for 4 months at
an average soil temperature of 21°c, but as the table indicates below, the
average for March – September is closer to 14°c.
Year
Multigreen Mini 12-0-44 Key Points
• Three applications in one – autumn + winter + spring carryover
• Homogeneous formulation – Nitrogen and potassium in each prill
• Cool temperature potassium nitrate ‘fast start’ portion for quick
response at low temperatures
The release of nutrients from
Multigreen is solely controlled by
soil temperature. The lower the
temperature, the longer the release.
Taking this temperature data into
account, Multigreen 425 month
products last between 5 – 6 months
in the U.K and Irish climate, with
applications made in April feeding
right through till September.
• Temperature-only release mechanism
• Sulphur free formulation
• Environmentally friendly, leach resistant technology
Three fertilisers for the price of one
Headland Amenity have pioneered autumn application of Multigreen Mini
12-0-44 controlled release fertiliser in order to achieve not just good winter
greens, but also to provide a head start the following spring.
Nutrient
Core
All Multigreen analyses contain an uncoated, ‘fast start’ portion, blended with
a polymer-coated, controlled release prill. Following application, the coated
Multigreen prill takes up moisture through pores in the polymer-resin coating.
This ‘priming’ process takes 7 – 10 days with the initial release period covered
by the immediately available, ‘fast start’ portion of potassium nitrate and / or
ammonium sulphate, to provide quick turf response at low soil temperatures.
Once the soil temperature reaches 6°c, release
commences from the polymer coated portion
of the product, in line with grass growth. The
longevity of release is determined by the thickness
of the polymer resin coat around the prill, -
the thicker the coating, the longer the product
lasts. Multigreen analyses are available in 4-5
month (425) and 6-7 month (627) longevities.
Controlled release potassium
Application is made once soil temperatures have dropped below 10 °c to prevent
any encouragement of disease, usually this would be around mid November.
After application, 40% of the nitrogen and 40% of the potassium is immediately
available to the grass plant, promoting strong, but hard winter growth due to
the high potassium content. In addition to the controlled release nitrogen and
potassium, Multigreen Mini 12-0-44 is sulphur-free, making it ideal for use on
anaerobic rootzones where an accumulation of sulphur has been detected.
Thereafter, the product only releases the remaining nitrogen and potassium
according to soil temperature, stopping below 6°c during the cold winter
period. In this dormant state, the nitrogen and potassium is protected from
leaching by the polymer-resin coating. As the soil temperature rises the
following Spring, nutrient release begins again, getting the greens off to a
head start without the need to re-apply fertiliser. Burial retrieval trials conducted
over winter has indicated that 50% of the nitrogen and potassium remained
available the following spring to provide strong growth.
