Gratings for the USB Bench that have groove densities of 2400 mm -1 are Grating 7 and 12. Technical Tip Light striking a grating is diffracted into multiple angles that vary with wavelength. For example, first order light at 200 nm is diffracted at angle #1 and at angle #2, which is twice as large as #1. Angle #2 is the same as the first order angle taken by light at twice the wavelength, or 400 nm. If the application requires signal at 400 nm and light at 200 nm is present, then the signal at the pixel in question will include contributions from both wavelengths. Second order light can be removed by using bandpass blocking filters, which are moved into and out of the light path.
