Position Concept:<br />

The Detective – Identity Theft Strike Force is a sworn, certified member who possesses all the requisite knowledge, skills<br />

and physical abilities incumbent upon the position of an entry level deputy sheriff. The member performs documentation,<br />

operations and investigative duties specific to the position.<br />

The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting<br />

positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning<br />

under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.<br />

The Detective - Identity Theft Strike Force may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the<br />

physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.<br />

Essential Functions:<br />

Provide investigative support<br />

Retrieve and disseminate information<br />

Provide investigative assistance to other<br />

agencies/divisions<br />

Assist SAO and county attorneys in case<br />

preparation<br />

Connect suspect to evidence and/or crime<br />

scene/criminal activity<br />

Conduct overt/covert surveillance of<br />

suspects<br />

Maintain confidential informant files<br />

Monitor suspect telecommunications<br />

/electronic mail<br />

Conduct proactive investigations<br />

Establish motive<br />

Develop suspect list<br />

Manage investigative funds<br />

Receive training<br />

Analyze computer drives/discs/diskettes for<br />

evidentiary/intelligence information<br />

Clip newspaper articles<br />

Run FCIC/NCIC and warrant checks<br />

Provide assistance to the public/<br />

members/other county personnel<br />

Analyze interview/interrogation statements<br />

Primary Functions:<br />

A deputy sheriff in this position is required to meet the primary duties of the pursuit, apprehension and arrest<br />

of law violators or suspected law violators and maintain same apprehension of suspects, inmates/prisoners or<br />

trustees during transportation.<br />

Education, Professional Certification or License:<br />

High School or GED<br />

Valid Florida driver's license<br />

State of Florida, Basic Recruit, Certificate of Compliance<br />

Professional Experience:<br />

Two (2) years non-probationary experience as a <strong>Polk</strong> <strong>County</strong> deputy sheriff preferred<br />

Interview/interrogation training preferred<br />

Status: [ ] Civilian [X] Sworn [X] Certified [X] Dual<br />

Blood and Viral Pathogen Risk: [ ] Minimal Risk [X] Foreseeable Risk<br />

Environmental Conditions:<br />

Works primarily in an office setting with normal stress levels<br />

May be called upon to perform the duties of a deputy sheriff<br />

Works on an on-call basis<br />
