NOTE: a high quality, G4 base 6 volt 10-watt lamp may be used if a VEC193
replacement bulb is not available.
NOTE: Recharging battery after each use will prolong battery life; frequent heavy
discharges between recharges will reduce battery life. You cannot
overcharge the battery with the supplied AC charger/adapter. The time
required to fully recharge the battery depends on the charge status of the
battery after it's use or storage. If the battery is discharged, recharge the
battery until the green LED changes from lit to unlit. Fastest recharge is
achieved when the lamp switch is OFF.
NOTE: The supplied AC charger/adapter can be left continuously powered and
connected to the lamp without harming the battery.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The rechargeable battery is contained in the base of the Lamp. The battery should
be replaced when it does not hold a charge or power the lamp. Disconnect the AC
charger/adapter from the AC outlet. You will need a 6 volt, 6 ampere hour
replacement battery Vector part# VEC199, and a Phillips screwdriver (number 1
size) four inches long or similar. The procedure to replace the battery is as follows:
1. Set the lamp on its' side.
2. Unscrew the four screws located under the four rubber pads in the base of the
lamp. See figure 4.
3. Separate the base bottom from the top.
4. Observe the battery connections red wire and black wire.
5. Lift the battery away from the base and circuits.
6. Remove the slide-off connectors from the battery tab connectors.
7. Note that the tabs are different sizes to avoid polarity mistakes.
8. Set the disconnected battery aside.
9. Place the red and black wire connectors on the new battery.
10. Make sure the red wire connector is on the POS (+) terminal and the black wire
terminal is on the (-) terminal.
11. Check lamp for operation by turning on the switch.
12. Place the battery in the base and reassemble the base.
13. Using the screwdriver replace the four screws. Do not overtighten.
14. Charge the battery as instructed above.
OPERATION/AC CHARGING
GREEN CHARGING
LED
There is a direct time trade off between lamp operation (brightness) and the time it
takes to recharge the battery. Your lamp battery cannot be overcharged if left
continuously connected to the AC charger/adapter. If the lamp switch is turned off,
the green LED will indicate external power and recharging. With the dimmer switch
off, allow at least 10 hours for complete recharging if battery is fully discharged.
The battery will charge slowly if the lamp is on and the dimmer is set midway. The
battery will not charge or discharge when the lamp is set to full brightness as all
energy supplied by the recharger will be used to power the lamp. The green LED
will change from lit to not lit when battery is fully charged. See table for LED and
battery conditions.
Make sure that the AC charger/adapter is powered from the correct AC source. It
must only be powered from 110 Volts AC 60 Hz and kept dry. Only use the supplied
AC charger/adapter with this lamp. Substituting this AC charger/adapter for
another may damage the lamp's internal charging circuits and void the warranty.
To power or recharge the lamp, plug the AC charger/adapter barrel connector into
the Power Port located on the base of the lamp. Plug the AC charger/adapter into
a standard 110 VAC 60 Hz electric socket. Observe that the green LED Lights.
DC CHARGER
This DC Charger allows your lamp to be recharged from a 12 volt source. The 12
volt DC source can be a cigarette lighter type socket on a vehicle or boat, a jump
starter or battery pack as long as it has a minimum capacity of 10 ampere hours.
Your lamp has a 6 volt, 6 amp hour rechargeable sealed lead acid
battery inside, so the charging voltage should be nominally 7.5 volts. The
supplied DC Charger converts 12 VDC to 7.5 VDC. See figure 4.
CAUTIONS
- Do not use any other DC Charger with this lamp; you may damage the lamp
charging circuit and void the warranty.
- Do not allow the DC Charger to continuously operate for more than 17 hours.
- The lamp will not accept a charge if the switch is set on and set to dim.
- Recharge time for this lamp is 17 hours with the lamp OFF.
- Operating the lamp during DC recharge will cause damage and void
the warranty
DC RECHARGE
- Make sure the lamp switch is OFF
- Insert the DC plug into the powered DC socket.
- Insert the adapter's barrel connector into the Power Port at the base of
the lamp.
- Observe the green LED and make sure it is lit.
- Charge until the green LED changes to unlit. This indicates full battery charge.
- Disconnect the DC Charger from the DC source and the lamp.
If the lamp does not accept a charge; check the following:
- Make sure the lamp is turned OFF
- Make sure the DC source is providing 12 volts DC.
- Try charging using the AC Charger/Adapter. If the battery accepts the charge,
the DC Charger may be damaged. Call Vector Technical Support.
BULB REPLACEMENT
The supplied 10 watt quartz Halogen lamp is a projection quality bulb. Operating
the lamp at full brightness for long periods reduces the bulb's life. Using the
dimmer will extend both bulb life and battery life.
If you suspect the bulb is burned out:
Check if the lamp will light by connecting the AC charger/adapter and powering
it. If the dimmer is set halfway and the bulb won't light it probably needs to
be replaced.
A Phillips screwdriver is the only tool required to replace the bulb; (replacement
bulb Vector part# VEC193). The replacement procedure is as follows:
1. Make sure the lamp switch is turned OFF.
2. Using the Phillips screwdriver, unscrew four screws that hold the shade
assembly to the base.
3. Set the screws aside.
4. Remove the shade and set it aside.
5. Using a clean soft cloth, grasp the bulb and pull the bulb straight up and remove
it. Set the bulb aside.
6. Using the clean cloth, grasp the new bulb and remove it from it's packaging.
Avoid touching the new bulb with bare skin.
7. Note the positions of the bulb's two metal pins and the small holes on the bulb
socket.
8. Insert the two pins of the new bulb into the socket and make sure they are fully
seated in the socket.
9. Turn on the dimmer and test operation of the bulb.
10. Turn off the lamp and place the shade assembly on the top of the base.
11. Loosely replace the four shade retaining screws.
12. Using the screwdriver, carefully tighten the screws to secure the shade
(clockwise). DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
13. Dispose of the burned out bulb in a responsible manner.
CLEANING
Over time, there may be dust or fingerprints on the lamp. If necessary clean the
lamp with, a soft clean oil-free cloth moistened with household window cleaner.
Do not use alcohol based cleaners on plastic surfaces. This will eventually cause
surface clouding. If the inside of the shade becomes dirty, disassemble as you
would for bulb replacement and clean with window cleaner as above.
BATTERY CARE
Lead-acid batteries require recharging on a regular basis to maintain a full charge
and to ensure good battery life. All lead-acid batteries suffer from self-discharge
over time and more rapidly when they are stored at higher temperatures. Therefore,
these types of batteries need periodic charging to replace energy lost through
self-discharge. When the lamp is not in use, Vector recommends that the battery is
recharged at least every 60 days. All batteries must be recharged as soon as possible
after each use. If a battery remains in a discharged state, battery life will be
reduced.
