KINDERGARTEN COORDINATOR
Ms. Akui Santiesteban
This Easter, we all have room to grow, and every day there´s
much to learn.
We must plant a garden deep inside, and work hard to make it
thrive, for when it´s in full bloom, its blossoms will bear joy and
pride.
Should never depend on others to feel whole instead, we must
look inside to recognize our own worth, and make our dreams
come true.
Happy Easter and have a wonderful vacation.

Nursery
Ms. July Salas
During the month of March ASD celebrated Saint
Patrick´s Day. We read stories, searched for
chocolate coins and went home dressed as
leprechauns.
The children really enjoyed their first Saint Patrick´s
Day Celebration!

PRE KINDER
Ms. Marymar Ramírez
In Pre-k we are learning about insects and farm
animals. We use different materials to decorate the
classroom and we manipulate with our fingers
different materials. We also sing songs and read
books, we enjoy learning about animals.
On Saint Patrick's day, the leprechauns visited our
classroom and left some gold coins and when we
touched them, they turned into chocolate!

K1
Ms. Saskia Bravo
This month our theme is “transportation”. Children love to
explore and manipulate materials, they can make questions and
create their own cars, buses, airplanes, trains, and different
transportation vehicles using recycling material.
Fine motor skills are the foundation that children need before they
learn to write. In order to have proper pencil grasp and control of
a writing instrument, children can work on their fine motor skills
with dough and sticks, they make different things, shapes,
numbers, and figures.

K2 A
Ms. Pearl Gear
During the month of March the students took part in a
selection of activities where they learned the difference
between rural and urban life. This was achieved through
the use of comparative exercises.
The students in the classroom were assigned projects
depicting different businesses. These were completed at
home. Throughout the weeks they discussed and
described their projects. The class derived much
enjoyment from these activities.

K2 B
Ms. Brenda Botello
We closed our theme “In the City, In the Country”
with a field trip to Tio Moy’s farm. The children
enjoyed learning about animals and feeding them.
They had a wonderful day and the privilege of
sharing this educational outing with their parents.

K3 A
Ms. Ellen Barbour
In K3A we have been learning about animals. We recently got a pet
fish for our classroom so children can learn about caring for pets and
about aquatic animals. We transformed our play area into a forest and
brought in stuffed animals from home, so that children can
demonstrate what they are learning about animals through dramatic
play. We have also been reading both fiction and nonfiction books
about animals and watching video clips of the animals that we read
about.
Recently we took a field trip to the University of Veterinary and
Zoology Studies. The children were able to observe and interact with
animals such as cows, goats, pigs, and birds. It was a great hands-on
experience to compliment what we have been working on in class.

KIII B
Miss Cynthia Saucedo
School field trips are important for enhancing children’s learning
by giving them authentic experiences, direct contact with real
objects, and stimulating their curiosity and interest in the topic.
Our topic this month is “Animals Around Us” and the KIII students
were invited to go to La Facultad de Veterinaria y Zootecnia de
Durango.
Our students were very pleased with the experience and they
learned about animals such as sheep, goats, cows, pigs, rabbits,
eagles, owls, and hawks. They were able to feed some of the
animals as well as petting them and most importantly they
learned how to take good care of the animals and how important
they are to our ecosystem.

Elementary Coordinator
March in the ASD Primary was all busy getting ready
for our Science Fair. Students researched, formulated questions,
hypothesis and conducted experiments according to the student’s
areas of interest. It will be very exciting to see all the final projects
on March 26th.
For 6th graders, CADMUN experience motivated them
to expose their ideas based on a well elaborated position paper.
They received training on how to debate and defend their
countries’ point of view. 5th graders also participated for the first
time in CADMUN as pages. This gave them a clear idea of what
will be expected from them next year.

1st Maroon
Salutations to all!
This month both groups got to work on their first
Science project. For this group we did what was called ¨Egg in a
Coke¨. We had two cups: One filled with water and the other with
coke. We left one egg in each cup and left them there for a couple
of days to see what each substance did to the shell of the egg.
This project was also done to show the students the damaging
effects coke has on their teeth. Using the egg shell as a substitute
for our teeth enamel. I´m sure this is a project the kids will
remember and seeing how simple it is, I encourage anyone and
everyone to try it out and see the final outcome.

Durante este mes los alumnos de Primer Grado han
estado investigando y trabajando sobre los diferentes tipos de
casas y los materiales que se utilizan para construirlas.
Tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar en un nuevo
fraccionamiento, una serie de casas en proceso de construcción.
El Arquitecto Herrera nos hizo el favor de recibirlos y explicarles
muy amablemente cada detalle de los materiales y herramientas
que se están empleando en la obra.
Los niños se mostraron interesados, con mucha
curiosidad y felices al realizar esta visita.

2nd Maroon
After working in English class on verbs in the present
tense, the students of second grade maroon practiced forming
sentences in the present tense. Each student had different color
index cards on which they wrote different types of proper and
common nouns and pronouns in plural and singular form. Verbs
were also written on separate index cards.
They then worked in groups and chose their cards al
the same time and took turns forming sentences in the present
tense.

PROYECTO
EL ÁLBUM
Después de conocer un zoológico, (a través de
proyecciones) apreciando las costumbres, hábitat y conservación de
distintas especies de animales, los alumnos elaboraron un álbum en
donde representaron todas estas características de su mascota o
animal preferido.
Todos los niños participaron con gran entusiasmo,
demostrando bastante conocimiento en la elaboración de cada parte
de su trabajo.
Finalmente lo expusieron ante todos sus compañeros
provocando gran interés por conocer el contenido e imágenes de
cada álbum.

3rd Gray and Maroon
The 3rd Grade students were hard at work on their
Science Fair projects for the 4th Bimester. All experiments and
preparation were done in class, and the students had a great time
finding out their results. Each class was divided into groups.
They had the same Science concept but their methods were
different. The concept was “How to Safely Remove Salt from
Water to Make it Potable”. Some experiments worked, some did
not, and some groups had time to try their experiment again for a
different result. It was so much fun watching the students get
excited about their results and taking true ownership of their
experiment. It was a real learning experience of how to problem
solve and work together as a team.

Los niños de tercer grado están trabajando con el
proyecto “Descripción de un proceso de fabricación o
manufactura” cuyo propósito es identificar las etapas de
elaboración de un producto y redactar un texto para describirlo
(utilizando nexos, orden temporal, etc.). Para ello programamos
una visita a la Embotelladora Guadiana, S.A. DE C.V. donde
conocieron el procedimiento para la producción del refresco.

4th Gray and Maroon
Fourth Grade Gray and Maroon classes worked very
hard on their Science Fair projects during February and March.
Working in groups of two or three, they researched their question
and wrote their Hypothesis. Then they conducted their
experiments in the science lab. They collected data, made
observations, recorded their results, and drew conclusions that
determined whether or not their Hypothesis was correct. Finally,
they worked on their Science Fair display boards and compiled all
information in an Abstract .
Students enjoyed all aspects of this Science Fair
project and completed all work during class.

4º Gray
Los alumnos de cuarto compararon diferentes cuentos
y leyendas indígenas para identificar sus características: tipo de
personajes, lugares donde se desarrolla la historia, el
planteamiento, el desarrollo y el desenlace; todo esto con el fin
de escribir un relato a partir de narraciones mexicanas.
Por otro lado, se realizaron exposiciones sobre el tema
de “los minerales”, tocándole a este equipo hablar sobre los
recursos mineros metálicos, no metálicos y energéticos. Después
de estos trabajos, los alumnos identificaron los principales
lugares de extracción de dichos minerales para la industria.

5th Maroon
As the time approaches for the Easter Holiday, students
are excited to present their Science Fair Projects. Most students
were not sure of what they wanted, however as soon as they got
the hang of things they really worked hard at gathering
information for their introduction. Some students found the
research intriguing, others a bit difficult, but all in all, they
managed to pull it off.
They had more action at the beginning of March as most of them
took their places as Pages in CADMUN. For the fifth graders it
was an interesting experience which helped them simulate how to
carry out a debate, which will be one of their challenges in coming
months.

6th Gray
This month has seen all of our kids make a big push to get ready for the
science fair! I am feeling especially proud as their teacher because our kids have been
taking this on from start to finish here at school all on their own! For many of our kids,
this will be the first time they have taken on sole responsibility for a project of this type.
They have been conducting experiments, observing, recording results,
and analyzing results to come to a conclusion. Further, they have created display
boards and decided on their own what to say and how to say it during the presentation
on Thursday.
It seems very possible and even probable that the grade 6 science fair
projects will not be as pretty, polished, or perfect as in past years. What they will be is
real, produced by our kids, understood by our kids, and displayed with pride by their
producers.
I told our kids before the start of the fair that it does not matter who wins.
The science fair is not a contest, it is a learning experience. I think I can say with
confidence, before any results are in, that in that way it has been a definite success.
Thank you for understanding the purpose of the event and supporting our hard working
kids.

Este bimestre durante la actividad de “lectura en voz alta” les he
estado leyendo “Sangre de Campeones”, un libro que narra la
emocionante historia de Felipe, un joven que al enfrentar retos y
enemigos en la escuela, recibe la ayuda inexplicable de una
hermosa mujer que lo inspira a definir sus metas, reafirmar sus
valores y ser feliz.

Computación
Estamos trabajando con los alumnos de sexto en la
creación de videos y el uso de memorias externas y
dispositivos electrónicos como los I-pad, tabletas
electrónicas, cámaras de video y celulares en conjunto con
las computadoras personales. Los alumnos han aprendido
como compartir información de un dispositivo a la PC y
viceversa.
Han comenzado a editar videos que ellos mismos
grabaron (color, imágenes, sonidos) en el programa Movie
Maker, siendo esto la base para que ellos utilicen otro tipo de
editores de video más sofisticados.

Integración al Arte
. Con los pequeños alumnos de 1er. Año se
trabajó para que identificaran el “color” como uno de los
elementos plásticos para la creación de imágenes. Por
otro lado, también inician a expresar corporalmente ideas,
estados de ánimo y emociones por medio de gestos y
movimientos.
En 2° año, los alumnos conocen y utilizan los
planos visuales para crear la ilusión o el efecto de
profundidad y del espacio en una imagen.

Integración al Arte
Los niños de 3° distinguen las diferencias entre
tono y contraste en los colores, por lo que utilizan
distintas gamas de color, para producir diversos efectos
en una imagen.
Los alumnos de 4° conocen las diferentes
posiciones que una escultura puede tener: Yacente,
sedente, ganuflexa o de pie, para posteriormente elaborar
una figura tridimensional e identificar su posición.

Integración al Arte
Los alumnos de 5° trabajaron en la creación de
un objeto tridimensional para expresar alguna idea,
posición o forma. Para ello utilizaron diversos soportes,
procesos y materiales, tales como alambre y plastilina.
En 6° valoran la importancia de conservar y
difundir el patrimonio artístico de México y Universal.
Conocen e identifican los distintos tipos de patrimonio:
Natural o Creado por el hombre (muebles, inmuebles e
intangibles)

Music Class
Estas semanas trabajamos en temas rítmicos, notas,
figuras, valores, compases, etc.
Como nuevo tema seleccionamos “Escatumbarimbe”
juego Brasileño de coordinación y ritmo, en el que todos
participaron con gran entusiasmo, desarrollando su coordinación,
destreza y conociendo la función rítmica de las notas estudiadas.

Library
Celebramos el aniversario de Theodore Geisel mejor
conocido como Dr. Seuss, quien escribió más de 40 libros para
niños. Los alumnos vinieron a la biblioteca a disfrutar videos
basados en los libros que escribió, además de conocer su
biografía. De esta forma, todos conocimos el legado de este
famoso autor.
Recibimos de parte de la Supervisión de Preescolar de
SEP, varios libros del Rincón de Lectura. Ven a conocerlos!

MS-HS Principal’s Office
CADMUN, Career Day, Talent Show and Science Fair were the
big events in March and each and every one of them was a success!
Our students demonstrated their leadership and organization skills in
CADMUN and the Talent Show, high school students took advantage
of the opportunity to learn about potential careers to which they may
dedicate their adult lives, and all of our students evidenced their
understanding of the tremendously important Scientific Method with
their intriguing projects. We are very pleased with the results of these
activities!
We also held an interesting and valuable Coffee, Cookies and
Conversation session with a presentation on summer educational
opportunities and an engaging discussion on “Intelligent Discipline,”
led by Mr. González, our School Counselor. Many thanks to those
parents who attended!

Los alumnos de biología trabajaron en sus
presentaciones de las diferentes enfermedades del sistema
respiratorio, como asma, bronquitis, neumonía, influenza, cáncer
pulmonar y enfisema pulmonar, además estuvieron muy activos
en los preparativos finales de Feria de Ciencias, en la cual
hicieron muy buen papel.

8th Grade US History
Students in 8th grade have been studying the causes of the
American Revolution. Using a variety of hands-on activities and
interactive technology, students have examined the political,
philosophical, economic, and cultural influences on the
Revolution.
In addition to learning about US history, our 8 th grade
students have been participating in weekly debates on current
global issues. These debates have been a great way for students
to place historical events from class in a larger context, as well as
to stay informed about important global events.

En esta edición de nuestro boletín, no podemos dejar
pasar la entrega, dedicación y talento del alumno Dante Noé
Rendón García, en la clase de Historia de México, al realizar
a pulso y ya en un periódico mural, el dibujo de nuestro
Escudo Nacional de nuestra Bandera Tricolor. Dejó a
estudiantes y maestros impresionados de su capacidad
artística para el dibujo.

9º Grado, Historia de México
Visita a la exposición de Símbolos Patrios en el Museo
Nacional “General Francisco Villa”.
El Escudo, la Bandera y el Himno Nacional conforman los Símbolos Patrios
Mexicanos que expresan la identidad y soberanía de nuestra nación. La
exhibición se desarrolla por la Secretaría de Gobernación con el objetivo de
promover la identidad nacional, el orgullo, respeto y veneración por nuestros
símbolos patrios. En tal virtud, los alumnos de 9° grado de nuestro Colegio
acudieron al Museo Francisco Villa a apreciar la exposición “Símbolos Patrios”,
saliendo del mismo, con mayor conocimiento de nuestra historia, pero sobre
todo, con mayor amor a México.

10° grado y la asistencia
Es un hecho que los estudiantes que van a la escuela
regularmente aprenden más y tienen más éxito que los
estudiantes que no lo hacen. Los padres que hacen de la
asistencia escolar una prioridad, ayudan a sus hijos a aceptar
responsabilidad propia.
En el CAD nos preocupa que los alumnos falten o lleguen tarde
con frecuencia a sus clases. He aquí unos consejos para
apoyarnos en ese problema:
1. Lleve a sus hijos al colegio temprano, todos los días.
2. Recuerde que las ausencias JUSTIFICADAS O
INJUSTIFICADAS formarán parte del récord permanente de
sus hijos.
3. No olvide que las vacaciones prolongadas, fines de semana
largos y citas frecuentes con el médico durante el horario
escolar, harán que sus hijos se retrasen en sus estudios.
4. Envíe a sus hijos al colegio todos los días, aumentando así
las oportunidades de ellos de obtener buenos resultados en
evaluaciones importantes durante el año escolar.
5. Siga los pasos adecuados, establecidos por el colegio en el
manual de padres y alumnos, para reportar ausencias a
tiempo.
6. Permita que sus hijos se queden en la casa solamente
cuando tengan una enfermedad contagiosa o están muy
enfermos como para estar cómodos en el salón de clases.

7. Asegúrese de que sus hijos hagan ejercicio, sigan una dieta
balanceada y duerman lo suficiente. Esto les ayudará a estar
mental y físicamente preparados para asistir regularmente a
clases.
8. Lea toda la información que el colegio envía a su casa.
Marque fechas importantes en un calendario o apúntelas en
papelitos y colóquelos en un tablero de anuncios o en la
puerta del refrigerador donde toda la familia los pueda leer.
9. Dé a su familia suficiente tiempo por las mañanas para
prepararse para ir al colegio. La noche anterior, preparen
almuerzos, mochilas y ropa.
10. Vigile la asistencia de sus hijos mediante una computadora
usando el programa Rediker que ahora está a su disposición.

Grade 11, Blended Learning
Parents play an important role in their child's education. As educators
we are an important part of your child’s educational path, but we cannot do it
alone. Education is always changing and here at ASD we are always looking for
ways to improve not only our educational strategies but our home-school relations.
Blended learning is one of the newest trends in education. The
teacher’s role has changed from a lecturer to a facilitator. Teachers are focused on
guiding students to develop skills as problem solvers, critical thinkers and team
workers. At ASD we are trying to promote situations where our students are
engaged in group work and trying to resolve real world issues. CADMUN and
Science Fair are examples of these situations.

12º Grado, Filosofía
Nuestra próxima generación a graduarse, se
encuentra relajada pero con suma concentración, ya que
observa, conoce, estudia y analiza el filme de Federico
Rossellini “Sócrates”. Lo anterior integrado a sus
investigaciones del filósofo del “Yo solo sé que no sé nada”,
así como a su lectura de la “Apología de Sócrates”, les dan
una visión más completa de este importantísimo filósofo.

9th MOS CERTIFICACIÓN EXCEL
Objetivo:
El alumno aprenderá a fomentar el desarrollo de proyectos desde etapas
tempranas de formación.
Es una revista enfocada en la evolución que ha tenido Microsoft Excel
desde sus comienzos, con el propósito de difundir tips, trucos, de la
aplicación, estos ejemplares son desarrollados directamente por y para
estudiantes de nivel secundaria.

MathCounts 2015
We just unpacked from our visit to the American Institute of Monterrey
where MathCounts 2015 was held this year. The event and the trip
provided the team with good memories that will last a life time. During
three very intense days, we competed in the Relay and Sprint, Target, and
Team Rounds that were our reason to visit this friendly city.
We also got to visit Tec de Monterrey, eat and play at Incredible Pizza,
get a glimpse of Leonardo da Vinci’s genius and learn about Lemurs at
Planetario Alfa, take a boat trip at Paseo Santa Lucía, and ride a huge
Ferris wheel at Parque Fundidora, among other things.
As you can see, being a Mathlete will bring you personal satisfaction
and also lots of fun. Make sure to try out for the team next year.

MS-HS Music
Gracias a los buenos ensayos y la participación de los
alumnos, logramos un muy buen Talent Show. Alumnos de 8°
participaron con la interpretación de “Rayando el Sol “de Maná.
Tuvimos un ensamble de alumnos de secundaria y prepa con:
Patricio Guerrero de 7° junto a Eduardo Salmon y Ernesto Varela
de 12º grado interpretando un Blues en Sol Mayor.
Cabe destacar que en general tuvimos una gran
participación de todos los alumnos.

11º Grado, Cours de Français
Los alumnos de 11º hicieron exposiciones de sus proyectos
finales sobre el tema de la gastronomía pero más bien sobre las
diferencias culturales y sobre los hábitos alimentarios de cada
uno. Hicieron entrevistas a sus maestros de diferentes
nacionalidades (francesa, australiana, americana, taiwanés,
canadiense, portorriqueña). Con este proyecto, se abren a otras
culturas y nacionalidades y entienden que las diferencias existen:
eso permite también hacer que acepten la diferencia sin juzgarla.
Pudieron también apreciar platillos extranjeros que nunca habían
conocido antes. Este intercambio de culturas fue un punto
positivo para mejorar su comportamiento en la sociedad, aceptar
y discutir de las diferencias. Pudieron debatir también sobre el
tema de la mala alimentación y de los malos hábitos alimentarios.

HAWKS
CAMPEONES
Los equipos de Basquetbol femenil1° y 2°
de Primaria, Infantil, Juvenil “A”, y Juvenil
“B” en todos los Torneos en los que
representaron al ASD quedaron
campeones. ¡Bien por los entrenadores y
Padres de Familia!
EL Fútbol empieza a brillar en el ASD, ya
participamos en ASOMEX y Torneos de Fútbol
Soccer. Se están dando los primeros logros en
este deporte. Sigan así entrenadores, gracias
Papás por el apoyo.
Los equipos de Fútbol femenil están obteniendo
victorias en la COPA COCA COLA y COPA
BIMBO, estamos trabajando para llevar a estas
categorías al ASOMEX.
Ya tenemos un grupo de atletas, entrenando en
el ITD, iniciarán sus competencias en el mes de
Abril.
La natación continúa con gran éxito. Aprovecha
este espacio para iniciar a tus hijos en este
deporte.
