Community IMAGES Spokane Public Schools History of IMAGES Community IMAGES began in 1995 when Midge Rigsby-Eldredge moved her high school Special Ed. classroom to the Spokane Community College campus. It was a collaborative agreement, SCC gave us a small portable classroom building. • A second program began in 1997 in a rented house across town. • In 1998 our school district paid for 2 portable classrooms to be built on a space leased to us by SCC. • Since the onset of the IMAGES program in 1995 through June 2010, 150 students have graduated. • In 1999, five IMAGES students competed for seven state office jobs posted for adults with disabilities, and all five have continued to work successfully in those jobs. • Graduated IMAGES students have gained employment with support from DVR, DDD, and job agencies contracted through DVR and DDD. • *(Employment status data for the graduating class of 2011 will be available after February 2012.) 1
Measurable Evidence of Success (Graduate data 1995-2010) Employed (in the year following graduation): 104 students, 69% (national average for students with disabilities employed within the first year of graduation is in the 37% range.)
